I'm so confused!

My phone just rang a minute ago. I picked up expecting it to be my husband. Instead I hear a male voice asking for my parents. I wasn't sure I heard him right, so I asked him to repeat. He said "Is (my first and last name)'s mom or dad available?" Um... Not having a chance to really think I replied quickly "Well, both of my parents are dead" Silence... he hung up! What on earth was that about?? I haven't lived with my mom in almost 10 years, and certainly haven't had anyone ask to speak to my parents (as if I'm a child) in well over 10 years! Usually it's me they're looking for when someone asks if mom or dad is available... and I dread those phone calls!! When was the last time someone called your home asking to speak to your "mom or dad"?

I had someone a few years ago ask to talk to my mom or dad. I guess I just have a little kid voice or something. They were looking for me though, not my parents.

I don't think I have ever had a phone call for my parents. I get phone calls all the time for my husband's family. It seems strange, do you have caller ID? I do but, if I didn't I would have *69.

No I don't have caller ID, although it probably would have been blocked or private anyways, and *69 wouldn't have worked because as soon as I hung up the phone it rang again but it was someone else.

I know that some sites that do searches for people also list relatives in the search results. Maybe the person got your number that way, or perhaps it was someone with a similar name they wanted. I used to get mail for my mother that passed away sometimes. Marketers will often share your personal information. It sounds strange though.

hmmm..very weird indeed, i think its just a wrong number or maybe someone who are just making jokes. We all know there are so many people out there who are just making nonsense jokes. Don't take it seriously my friend, ^_^ -PaLs101-

What exactly are you confused about, be more specific? Maybe I can help you understand the situation.

I think they are just checking on your age and family information. Don't even let them know about your parents. Second, your voice probably sounds like teenagers voice and it can be very confusing for telemarketers.

That is weird...I haven't had anyone call and ask for my parents since I was in school. I thought at first that maybe you just sounded really young but since he used your first and last name it shows he knows you to some extent. VERY, VERY WEIRD!! I always find it hilarious when this happens to me and a great excuse not to have to speak to the sales people who it usually is that are calling! I just say no they are not in sorry!! The funniest thing I had happen to me was when sales came to the door, I opened it and the person asked me if my parents were at home at all I nearly cried laughing!!

I remember those phone calls. It always happend to me few years ago when I was younger. I was at home a lot after school, and we keep getting phone calls that were asking for mom or dad. I was sick and tired from it. I was looking badly for someone to ask me, or at least to get a phone call from one of my friends.

Hey kats! I'm sorry, but I think they must have thought you were one of the children! That would have been the only explanation that would have made any sense! Who ever it was must have expected a child to answer, I guess? It is rather strange? I would just forget about it. It obviously was some kind of weird mistake.

LOL, "Could you put your mommy or daddy on the phone please?" That is too funny! I only have a cell phone, so I can't say that has happened to me in a very long time. That is really funny though. :)

In China there is another kind of call which is surely a swindle. A student in college will first receives a call which claims to be dailed from the telecommunication company and requires the student to turn off the power of his or her cellphone in order to test its signal. Then the student's parents will receive a call from which a person claims to be the student's consulors in college and tells the parents that their child has a car collision or other accidents thus needs money for hospital. The person will point out that their kid's cellphone is ruined in the accidents too. When the parents try to get in touch with their children by the children's cellphone, they will find it is power off. Some of those parents receive a call like that will believe that their children are really in need of money thus they transfer money into the account the swindler specific. I don't know whether it had taken placed in your country. But now most of college students have been told about this swindle by their consulors and taken measurement to prevent their parents from being taken in.
