There was an issue against Adidas releasing a jacket that was designed as the Philippine Flag - the government banned because it was against our law. See: http://www.thingswelovetohate.com/2009/04/why-adidas-philippine-flag-jacket.html Do you agree that wearing the Philippine flag as a garment should be unlawful? It just bothers me that I see many countries, like the US, where its citizens wear their flags casually. And to think that we have such a wonderful, pretty flag! The mere desire for us to actually wear it, isn't that patriotic?

It's rally no issue for me to wear clothes with Philippine colors. I think now they just ban those items that really resembles the flag. The issue for me is if they design clothes with Philippine flag symbols that are scandalous and disrespectful...say a tube? or a micro mini or a super cleavage dress. I think I would feel offended if I see anyone wearing that.

"...I see many countries, like the US, where its citizens wear their flags casually..." Unfortunately, it does not mean they are doing the right thing. The flag code of the US, and most countries actually, specifically states that the flag should never be used as an apparel. However, the US flag code serves as a guide for the citizens to follow and violating any of its provisions has no punishment. "The mere desire for us to actually wear it, isn't that patriotic?" Almost every country in the world don't think that wearing their national flag is a patriotic act. They all regard such national emblem highly more than fashion. And I honestly agree to such sentiment. If you care so much for one thing, you want that to be special and would not want it to become just a common thing.

I fail to see how the flag would become a common thing if the law against wearing it as part of our clothings will be lifted. Exactly how the US flag is not a common thing even though it's practically everywhere. Would you care to elaborate?

That is crazy! I don't agree as I don't see anything wrong with that. I have a shirt with our flag and I think its patriotic to be like that. It would be a disgust if the shirt is being used as a rag to clean things but if we are wearing it then thats different. I don't see any point on that stupid law.

I know there is a law against the use of the Philippine flas as an item of clothing... i just do not know when or how it started... i guess during that time... there was an intense nationalism among lawmakers that they deemed it fit to make this law... I have nothing against it... i wouldn't want to wear clothes with that sort of design... not that i am not nationalistic... wearin such a design entails a lot of responsibilities...

I haven't heard of that law yet but if they are pushing on something like that I definitely won't agree. . Our leaders should be happy to see people wearing the Philippine flag designs because it just shows that we are proud to be a Filipino.

I don't think that it is against the law. There are lots of countries who uses their flag as garments and there are a lot of Tshirts that represents our flag. It is the same way Francis Magalona do business in selling tshirts with our flag design. I've seen a lot of women who dressed in Philippine flag gown. It is the same thing, whatever it is, tshirt, jacket, gown, it is the same. We have the right to do it. e have a FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION and nobody can take it away. It is in the constitution that all of us have this freedom.

That's so lame. that would have been something. but against the law when it comes to rubber shoes. maybe that's probably the reason why some politicians get's to change the constitution in a hurry. because he needs a shoe with a Pinoy flag. i think that law not up to date.

I support the law against wearing the Philippine flag as garments. I don't think many people wear flag as garments because they are patriotic and respect their country. In India it is against law to wear the flag as garments. Also, we are supposed to use the flag with great respect. If anybody finds the flag disrespectful, lying on road, or placed in a wrong direction (upward down etc), the owner of that place where the flag was found or the person responsible for that will be taken to jail. I have seen many people wearing US flag as garments, not in in US but also in India. Mainly the flag comes in caps and hankys. I don't think they respect America so they wear it. It is just for fun. I am sorry if you don't agree with it. This is my personal opinion. I might think like this because I was born and brought up in Indian cluture where the flag has given high respect.

Hi there! I majored in History you see and I have a lot of friend sfrom the National Historical Institute. I know for a fact that wearing the Phil flag as a form of garment is really a sign of disrespect. Our flag's history as compared to other nation's flag underwent a lot of hardships and pain, as compared to other nation's flag. This atleast we owe to our country. Nothing wrong with being nationalistic or patriotism, we'll just have to limit our boundaries.

I guess it would not hurt if we wear our flag or if they use it a design for clothes. You are right that the mere wearing of it is a sign of how proud you are of the country. What needs to be control though is how do they include it as part of the design. If that is something really awful, then a sanction should be made. But if it appears ok and nothing harmful to the Filipino community or it does not insult the country as a whole then it should be ok. What I really wanted to happen though is the government taking action on the enforcement of more critical laws not wasting their time on this not so relevant social issues. What do you think guys?

I saw and tried to wear that jacket. And I agree banning it. ecause it's like the entire flag. If only its design is like from 3 stars & a Sun by francis then it should be fine. I also saw some slippers/flip flops but not from Adidas and the main design is the Flag so I don't think thats a good one. In general. there should be a Law that indicates the limitations of the size and lists of location where the flag should be located and I also don't agree on customizing the flag itself. We all know Simplicity is beauty, take it from Francis M. designs. Simple and unique.

i think they just want our flag to be treated with respect at all times as this represent our country and its people. honestly, not everyone takes good care of their clothing. sometimes spilling something on it, staining, painting, stitching, pinning something over it or just throwing it aside and sometimes sitting on it. the Philippine flag is not even suppose to touch the ground so making it into clothing would ruin all that. i'm actually proud that our country have such law protecting the symbol of every Filipino.

There are similar laws in India too. Recently a famous designer was brought to book for designing a wrap with the Indian colours. I found it ridiculous really. Delving more, I came to know that the Indian flag can be worn as a garment but only above knee level…below that is thought to be insulting the flag. Another incident was when a sportsperson cut a cake with Indian colours, to celebrate an Indian victory. I found that justified though, as cutting a cake with national colours is like cutting up your own country. So it depends really on individual interpretations. But regarding USA, I find they take their freedom to ludicrous heights on some issues, like they are even free and within rights to burn their national flag as a show of protest! Imagine that!!

i really don't... it's really irritating how they become so particular on things as these.. when there are a lot of laws out there that are not well implemented...

Well, I think it's just fine to wear clothes with the design of the Philippine flag especially if he is on another country. This means that he is very proud to be a Filipino. However, it matters much on how one wears it. If he wears it indecently, then I think it is not proper. Additionally, one should wear it with pride and not to insult the Filipinos.

I never heard this law yet. If this is true then we have to respect it because before it will become a law, there is a long process and debate why it will be made into law. I think our government think it is disrespectful for a symbol of a country and freedom to be used as a garment. A national flag is always a symbol of a nationalism, respect to the culture and history of one country, and if this will be put in any actions with out a definite purpose. It should be used in a proper manner that would generate nationalism and patriotism. It was banned for Adidas maybe because it will be just used for commercial purposes and it will disrupt the true essence and value of freedom and nationalism.

Hello oyenkai, before my response to your discussion, first of all i want to greet you a plesant day. Here in our country Philippines our flag is one of the things that we must give respect especially whe rising it while singging our national athem, which all people must stop the work that they are doing as lngng as they hear the nation athem and we must put our right hand near our heart, with this kind of situation people are giving respect which is also showing of being proud here in our country. In every achievements that Filipino people received the thing that they do is to rise the flag and wave it to show being proud to our own native land and by waving it, it only means of dedicating your achievement to your country. Well, that kind nf particular situation our flag becamd famous and as of now we always see some upper wear or garments which the design is very unique and good which is our flag. The government say that this is kind of garments that are against the law. Due to some reason of the government to banned that garment design. But i think the government must removed that kind of particular banned, because with that good and elegant design of our flag in a garments.. Our country will became popular to other country. Then as i remember in other country they also make a garment with a flag design in that their country became popular and that kind of garment are not banned. For me if we have a garment designed of our Philippine flag it can be give to other foreigner and tourist for them to have a remembrance regarding the visit of our country. I'm sure many foreigners will really like it and the popularity of our country will be increase together with the tourist who want to explore our beautiful country especially the unique views, tradition. Well honestly speaking, if i will have a good enough money. Even that garments are no longer available i will still try to find some of it and buy. For me to show of being proud in my counry. Well that's all my response in your beautiful discussion. Thank you! Happy earning an happy posting to dvery one of us here in this site mylot.

Good day, oyenkai. You are right, that was really patriotic. Well, I do not agree that wearing of those jackets with the Philippine flag to be unlawful. To be proud of our country, wearing things that symbolize the country would do. So, why agree? Happy mylotting=)
