Like the title says, i have a friend who is so terrified of cats (hard to believe but it's true) that she ends up hating them..Whenever she sees stray cats around, she'll go on saying Eww over and over again and says that they're disgusting and such even when i'm there, someone WHO HAPPENS TO ACTUALLY OWN AND LOVES HER KITTY and it's getting pretty irritating...Expecially when she says it on MY CAT...Won't you feel the same way..? How do you DEAL with such people..*rolls eyes

I have to ask the question: why is she so frightened of cats? some sort of childhood trauma? Or maybe she was a mouse in a previous life?
I think that I'd have to take a stand and say to her, if you don't like my cat, then don't come here. You could still meet her someplace else than your home, but honestly, I think that she needs to see a therapist for irrational fears.

That sounds to me as though she is using it to get at you rather than your cat. Does she do this when she sees a photo of someone elses cat? Maybe you should re-examine the relationship that you have with her.

yea, we're fine...In every other aspects of the friendship we're all good...It's just when it come to pets...she does the same to EVERY CAT, not just mine...So yea, she isn't just trying to get to me, she really means it when she says EEWWWW WHAT IS THAT THING?? CANT YOU PUT LIKE OTHER PICTURES BESIDES THAT?? THATS SO DISGUSTING, GET IT OUT OF MY SIGHT...
You: That's pretty nasty...
Me: Yer think?

You guessed it right...I don't know if it would be considered a trauma but from the way i see it, it wasn't intentional...She said that once she accidentally stepped on this cat's tail and it sent the cat biting her leg...So i was saying, i understand why you hate them now but you stepped on its tail, what do you expect if someone accidentally step on your finger, wouldn't you hit the person to get off? It's not like every cat is gonna react the same way...
And it's not that she comes over here at my place and insults my cat, it's when i talk about cats to my other friends who loves them and when she sees my cat's photos which i put as my dp in chatrooms...These are the moments when she'll make those unnecessary comments..usually i'll try to understand and keep quiet, but now it's getting pretty irritating and i feel offended for my poor kitty.

I think the best way is to let her rise a cat too. Once I were terrified of cats too. I'm afraid cats scratch me.But when I adopted a stray cat, I change my attitude. I love cat now:)

Maybe you can ask her to help you to take care of your cat for a period. Then she will accept a cat?

I think she can figure it all out since i have my other friends that she knows of that would be more than glad to take care of my cat for me...hahaha...I guess some things you just can't change...unless she's willing to herself...like you..What made you adopt a cat when you hate them in the first place? I'd like to know...

Well, most of my friends know what animals I hate. And since I own a pet, they have the right to say it, but they do not have the right to say to throw away my pet. Particularly, I don't mind as long as they don't hurt it.

Well i try my best not to mind but i love my kitty too much to be hearing insults hurling her way...Insulting her would be like insulting me, you get it?...And what more i love kitties as in the species itself and it still hurts me a little when she says those suff about them stray cats...If she were to say something like "why do you even own one of THOSE, throw it away!", i'd seriously b**** slap her back to venus...lol..^_^

I raise dogs for extra money the dogs that i have are family pets to my Husband and I they aren't in a kennel they all live with us. His sister is scared opf dogs and made her kids affraid too. Thye dont come to our house because of our dogs. We have little tiny dogs but they still wont visit. They tell everyone else they don't visit us because we dont invite them. It drives me crazy. Its not quite the same thing as you but in a way I share your pain. I used to feel bad but now my Husband and I are to the point oh well they dont have to come over then.

hahahah, yea..I mean you guys have nothing to lose if they don't come over right? And besides, the very fact that they tell people that you guys don't invite her over tells me that even she thinks her fear was an irrational one since those dogs were just mere puppies...hahah

I know~~ I find it hard to believe too...Hahah, well she usually don't come to my house...I think i fail to mention that she already freaks out if she saw that my cellphone's wallpaper was that of my kitty. And by freaking out, i mean like all those nasty insults come hurling and the EWWW and all...i mean GOD, IT'S JUST A FRIGGIN PICTURE?! My cat isn't even nowhere near her and she's already frickin out.......YES! at a picture..
So yea, i think i'm pretty much entitled to feel annoyed at her lack of discretion....don't you think? Or am i taking it too far..?

well this also happened to me. i had a friend who was living here at my house and she always used to critisize my kitties. it was indeed very irritating. i used to tell her to stop but she continued. so what i started doing was dissing e each time she dissed my cat lol. i'm not gonna let someone just barge into my plce and critise anything that i love. so too bad if she didnt like it. haha.

I am an animal lover and anyone who has read my posts knows that I have four: two cats, a dog and a bird and I adore them! If anyone does not like them it's too bad for them. My mother in law hated cats; she was repulsed by them and could not bear to be anywhere near them; of course my favourite animal is the cat!
My mother in law has passed away now; she used to live on the other side of the country and she and her husband would stay with us whenever they came over and one of my cats would always go up to her and stroke her legs with his face as cats do; she used to freak out and she wouldn't even walk through a door if the cat was anywhere near it. She was polite enough to put up with it though.
People who aren't pet lovers will not understand the bond we share with our animals. I think that if a friend who doesn't like pets comes to visit will have to 'love me love my pets.'

I think it's okay too but i am sooo not okay when they go around and insult them in front of me..I mean they should have the decency to be considerate about kitty lovers around them...They want to hate go ahead, be my guest and hate..
But do it silence..thanks anyway ^_^..
