How do you take care of your eyes after stairing at the computer for a long time

Most of us overuse the computer and it is not up to us. I kown having a good rest is absolutely the best way to take care of the eyes. If we don't even have a choice, so to speak, we have to use the eyes staring at the computer even though we get pretty tired, what shall we do then?
Eating some fruits, drinking some flower tea, putting some cucumber pieces on the eye skin are all good choices. However, we still need more suggestions, the more, the better?
Anything?
Thanks for your attention.

Absolutely, it helps a lot. But sometimes, we are too lazy to do it. Eyes are very improtant. So, we should blame our negligence

Do an eye exercise. i have seen some Chinese students do this in the past but I don't know how to do it exactly. It also helps to stare at a blank wall for 15 seconds and close your eyes every once in a while to remove eye strain.

Well, it would be nice if this site was not on a White screen so that the Glare did not get so bad, as I do spend a lot of time in here posting when I actually have time to be online. I know from time to time I have to go do other things just to give my eyes a rest, as at work I take Calls for people needing a Cab and the monitors there are Bad too. So it can be an endless thing.
For me from time to time I will find other things to do to take my eyes away from here, like watch a movie, go take a nap, etc. It does help from time to time for sure.

Hi there, I'm guilty too of over using the eyes staring at the computer. I know it's good to rest eyes in between the use or blinking eyes when it feels dry. I have two pairs of eyeglasses. One is for my daily use and the other is a working glass use during computer time or reading. But still we need to rest those eyes.

Haha, we should find ways to rest them. Anyway, it is our business. So, always bear this in mind.

Hello Hiddenwing,
Yes, many of us do overuse the internet/computer, and certainly not all of us are up to it.
You've put down many valid ideas here: eating food, drinking tea, cucumber pieces in the eyes...taking a rest. All of them are excellent for eye recovery (as dramatic as that sounds).
I find the best way to recover is to simply get outside. You may feel that kind of ick-it's-bright-out-here feeling, where you really don't want to go outside. You may also feel that yeah-I've-been-looking-at-pixels-waaay-too-long feeling. So, the best way to quickly kill it is to run around.
If you have a dog, walk it. If you have a cat, tend to it. If you have an exercise schedule, do it a little bit early. If you have a child, take him/her for a walk. Any of those are valid ways to reduce the eye tension.
After you've taken a walk/jog/run, come inside and get yourself something to drink. Once you've done that, take a nap (preferably an hour or so), and wake up. You should feel fairly refreshed.
Essentially, STOP looking at the pixels! Computer screens, televisions, whatever-they are all made up of little pixels. Your eyes get sore (and you'll probably get a headache after a while) as they try to focus on the screen. But, as you can imagine, it's fairly difficult to focus on thousands of mini-pixels all squished into a computer screen at once. Your eyes need a break.
I would mention other ways to reduce eye tension, but the 'others' are the ones that you wrote! Hah-maybe next time...:D
Thanks for starting this discussion!

well the more were away from the computer screen the better... it would be better if we dont go on our computer too often and its all about self control as well... and i mean if your pretty tired and you still need to be on the computer maybe you have to cut it short and get some sleep and go on the computer when your not tired...make sure you also have some kind of lighting ..and not use your computer in the dark..

Most doctors suggest just looking away from the computer to something more distant every now and then. I think I fulfill that requirement by using the wall clock instead of my wristwatch or the time on the computer screen.

I have learned this lesson hard, because now a days am wearing glasses even though am looking at a screen right now.my advice is that stay far away from the monitor, avoid getting closer as you look into the information on the monitor and if you feel sleepy or if eyes are irritating, then just stop looking at the monitor and get some sleep.

i too never take care of my eyes but which i should do
The best way of protecting our eyes is to use 20/20/20 method. In this after every 20 minutes we have to stare an object for 20 seconds which is 20 metre far from us.This one is really good. But i know doing it after every 20 minuttes is little difficult but we have to do it for our eyes.you can have a reminder for after every 20 minutes.Try it.
have a nice day

My profession is totally with the computer. So I cannot escape from the monitor and I don't have an option as well.
Generally what I do is, I don't look into the monitor for more than 15 minutes.
After every 15 mins, I generally keep my eyes closed for some time, or just go for a walk, drink some water and start seeing object which are very far.
This not only refreshes my eyes, but also is so relieving for my back pain.
At night, I just dip cotton balls in rose water and place it on my eye lids for 15 mins before going to bed. This is so relaxing to eyes.

I usually stare out the window forn abit, go splash my face with water. I then roll my eyes around in my head, stretch them out abit.
Concentrate on some close objects then some far away objects.

I get so sleepy after looking at the computer for a long period of time. I usually have to take a nap to rest my eyes. I'm not sure of anything else.

Well i usually recommend taking breaks in between your "computer time" and try to take a look at far objects like for example, try and have a look around outside your house at the trees that are faraway, people walking or maybe why don't you just get some shut-eye for an hour or so...^_^ It's what i always do...
