i am a boy from assam, india. there is a famous poet in assamese literature named by JATINDRA NATH DUWRA. among his thousands of poem one is ATITOK NAJAABA PAHORI( don't forget your past) and another is ATITOK JOWAHE PAAHORI(forget your past). perhaps he was confused about this matter because some moments of past give us strenght to struggle in our life and some depress us. so what we should do? please share.

O.K last one for now, No I will not want to forget my past, may change 1 or 2 things but never forget, I truly believe our past play a huge part in the adults we become, even if you have bad memories, you learn from that and move on, I know some people can't do that which is very unfortunate, I learn from not only my mistakes, I learn from other people mistakes as well, so with that said, I will never want to forget my past, thanks again, another great post smoochess

Well thought kitty, i appreciate it. Past always provides us some teaching points by which we can survive better in future. In order to recover the mistakes of past, we need some extra strenght, and all these come from past. As u have said that we can learn from others mistakes too. But some painful moments should be forgotten if it hurts in present. Thanks for response. Be friend always.

hi kitty. who become upset from their past, they are not a human beings at all bcoz we should maintain our mental strenght. some incidents of past can make us strong enough to struggle in life. those who live with the worried moments of past, actually they are looser from life and unable to pick up the adventures of life. thanks.

Yes you are so right, there maybe somethings that a person may want to forget, but some people use there past to hinder their future, I feel really bad for those people, always talking the same thing woe is me, get over it already, I am not speaking about really bad things, for instance me and my sister did not get along growing up, I was more than willing to get past it, we were young things happen, but she took into our adult life, she says things like this person treat me better than they treat her, I didn't see that, and if that was true why blame me, so it is things like that that really piss me off, great post sweety.smoochess

for example its about your past relationships with your ex gfs..you may not forget them cause they were part of your past life but donnot give importance nor go back to your past face the future..for the future is more important than your past....take care!

Hi shibham!
First of all i thanks you to sharing with us the name of assames poet and your love to read poems. I too love to read poems, novels and books of great man.
I finds sometimes necessary to reflect on those points made by any great writer. From my points of view about forget our past or not is, we should be very realistic and optimistic towards our life there are many incident happening to our life if the matter hurts us then i think we should forget it and yes learn a lesson is must and if a matter gives us pleasure we should remind it.

The only thing that we can do is look forward don't look back. The future will come to those who look forward. Happy Mylotting.

While you absolutely can not forget your past, as we learn from it and it makes us who we are, but you also can't let it burden you or pull you down. So often people get wrapped up in the past that they forget to move forward. So in a way, yes, you do kinda have to both remember and forget.

kinda interesting discussion, hehehe! yeah i bet the poet was confused and for sure, he experiences both situations in the past to have such dilemma. well i guess, it all depends whether you gathered beautiful memories or bad memories in the past...

Don't forget the past but then don't dwell on it either... If you have made a mistake in the past & forget about it, then there's nothing gained from it... How's that saying go? "People who forget their past are bound to repeat it and people who dwell on their past have no future!!!"

I know there are some things are painful from the past but I think it's better to remember how we come to be who we are. Even though there are bad things or tough times..it's nice to look back and see how far we have come. We can also be proud of how we've changed our situations if it applies. There are a lot of people that push their pasts away and prefer not to think about it and I don't think we should dwell on the bad but by forgetting the past,I think we would forget who we are. Take care.

i would like to say that it depends ........
i think we should choose out as to what we want to remember and what to forget??????
my life had become very miserable in the past but also some very good things happened to me then.........so i chose to forget what was bad and remember only the good that happened.....
i agree that it isn't easy to be like that.it took me around 2 to 2.5 years to be able to do that...just try and see if that is possible....

This is a question I ask myself a lot. I don't think you can literally "forget" about something. It may just pop in your mind from time to time. As with that said. Good things should be remembered to drive the bad things out. Even the most simple cherishing thought could get rid of any negative past moments. :)

One should never forget their past. but i don't mean to say you should hold on to your past. forgetting your past mistakes would only make you repeat the mistake. so the best thing to do is taking the lesson from your pasts and remembering it in the future. there's a saying- visit your past, but don't bring any luggage with you.

Our past sometimes help us strive to be a better person. Even when it's a memory we would like to erase from our minds. For example, we made a mistake. It's all in the past now but for us not to repeat the same mistake, we remember what happened and use that as a lesson.
Another example: You inherited a huge sum of money and you enjoy being rich, then something happens and all your money was suddenly taken away from you and you were left with nothing. You then start over and finally achieve great wealth again. Since you know what it took to get to where you are right now (living the rich life), you will not take it for granted.
In the end, it's really up to us whether we want to do something (positive) about it and turn it into a life lesson, or just feel depressed whenever we would remember it.

yah caffeinedrunk, surely. it depends on us how we handle our past. suppose a person saved his life from an accident luckily. then he can take it as a lesson to be careful in future. on the otherhand, he can past his lonliness by remembering it as a worst moment of his life and may be depressed.

simple if its a good experience then never forget it
and if its a bad experience then try to know what was the reason for it to become a bad one and dont do that in yoour present so that you can remember your past in your future hehehhehe
have a nice day

Hello Shibham, good going.
A poet's mind is ever fleeting. And his two poems with constricting title is the embodiment of the real facet of life. why should you not forget you0r past that was all painful and full of agony and you had nothing to learn from? Is not it better to that way? On the other hand the past is not all pain but it is a store house of experience and knowledge and happiness that count immensely in your contemporary life as well as in the future life when you are old and flash back to the past to ruminate the good old days.
There is a poetic justice there. This not that the later poem was his regret of what he wrote before.

I think there's no need to forget something designedly ,and the same attitude to remember somthing .just let the thing itself goes .

you should learn from your past, live for today, and look forward to tommorrow if you dont look back from your past wether it be good or bad then you just would never get to were you need to go.
