My widowed mother will be 80 years old soon. Since we, her children, live with our respective families in different areas, far from her, we have not celebrated her birthday with all of us present, and also because the date is far from the usual annual vacation dates we manage to make. However this being a "milestone" for her I urged my siblings to make the necessary preparations so we could visit her together and have a festive birthday celebration. Could you suggest activities we could do to make it a memorable affair?

Definately take lots of pictures! I suggest video taping the event and then spending a little bit of money to make sure that everyone had a copy. Have each of those attending add a personal memory of your mom. Make sure to invite all of her friends that are still living to join you on that day.

I'm sure that would be lots of fun. Maybe I should start inviting her long time friends already. Thanks for posting.
