I am not sure what exactly you mean. However, there always has to be some specific guidelines for copyrights protection. You are, of course, aware that originality is a main focus.

Not really becuase otherwise it would be a free for all and how would you ever protect your creations, art, or music etc!

No they are not too restrictive.
Copyrights are in place to protect people from having their hard work stolen. How would you feel if you weren't paid for your work because others have stolen it from you? What if you were a fashion designer, or artist, or architect, or inventor and someone stole your designs or plans and said it was theirs? It's the same for a writer. No one has the right to steal our words. You must always give credit to the words you use that were created by someone else or appear on some other website. If you don't you are in essence committing a crime that can have legal ramifications.
