Relaxing At Home

It's funny how the simplest things in life can make someone happy. I'm not one for fancy anything. I love my books, good music, soft colors, and a peaceful home. There are times when I've come home and am so stressed out that I can't my key in the door fast enough. The first thing I see is the smiling face of my kitty. That makes me smile. I check my mail, make a round of my apartment and then go settle in my bedroom. I kick off my shoes, turn on a soft music station or put on one of my favorite CD's, plump up my pillows, grab the book that I am reading currently and settle on top of the bed. I have an old afghan that I pull up around me. I've had that since I was a child. In about 30 minutes I'm so relaxed, I fall asleep.
How do you relax when you get home?

gxyywhyzy,
People that live the simple life do have the key to relaxation. I live in a city and there are times that I wish I lived out in the country. I've had a few friends that live so far out in the country that you feel like you are in another world. It's so quiet and dark out in the country. Quiet as in no sounds of cars, construction, buses, trucks. Country quiet as in crickets, birds, wind in the trees, barn animals in the distance, the smell of fresh cut hay. Man, I've got to get out to the country like, real soon!...lol

Think of nothing, laying on my bed, close my eyes for the rest of the day without disturbance. I also enjoy watching a good movie, and have a nice good dinner.

Doing ANYTHING around the house relaxes me... washing dishes, doing laundry, any kind of cleaning or putting in more order and organization relaxes me. But I think that is because I do not 'have to get it all done NOW!' I just do whatever I am inspired to do and it soothes me. And even THINKING about cuddling up with a good book and cup of tea sends waves of 'all is well' coursing through me!
Today I am not doing anything, and that is relaxing too!!! I took a walk by the river, I ate some chicken tacos with grated radish, avocado and some papaya hot sauce my sister brought back from Aruba, and now I'm smoking a cig or two and sitting here in front of my computer... one of my favorite places in my house!!
What book are you currently reading?

zigzabuddha,
I like to keep things organized or at least I try to keep things organized. I thing the meal you had sounds really appetizing, especially the papaya hot sauce.
The book I'm reading now is called, Black Boy by Richard Wright. He wrote Native Son which, believe it or not I have never read. That's on my next to read list though. I'm glad to be reading Black Boy. It's Wright's auto biography. He was born a little before W.W.I in the South. He gives a very good representation of what the south was like for him growing up and how he lived despite the racial prejudices that he was introduced to. It gives you a view to how his mother raised him and his brother. She had been married but her husband walked out on them leaving her to raise two boys. It's a very good book and it gives me insight to the author before he wrote Native Son.

Hmmm, doesn't sound like much of a page-turner to me, hehehehe. I have not been in the mood for 'serious' reading at all. But I have sure been having a good time with Jane Lindskold's Firekeeper Saga! It's a fantasy novel about a girl who was raised by wolves... right up my alley! I have been unable to get to bed before 4AM since I started reading it!

Pretty much like you, except that I am at Home most of the time, And TV is my biggest passion. I turn on the radio in the mornings, I hear music and some local news while giving breakfast to my cat; then I make coffee, read the newspaper, and off I go to my "office", my bedroom it is a suite just a door separates my Office and TV lounge. Usually I check my mail and figure out my day. My husband and I walk every day at a nearby park that is very relaxing for both of us. Besides that I like to paint, read, listen to music, sometines a cup of coffee is good enough some other times I feel a whisky or a martini will do the trick.

eztuner,
When there seems to be nothing on, rather then leave the TV running until a favorite show comes on, I'll shut it off. I'd rather here no sound then something that I am not really listening to. I know that there are some people that leave a TV running just for the sound, but that's such a waste of energy.
My grandmother use to paint and draw at times and I remember she always looked so focused. I know now that she was in a relaxed state of mind.

Well I have two babies a 9 month old and a 3 year old so I don't get much relaxing time haha. However once I put them to bed I curl up in my chair with my blanket my great aunt made me and put on my Tv series whether that be Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Rosewell, or Gilmore Girls. I get nice and comfy and relaxed.

JHawkin214,
Oh I remember what it was like to try to relax with two children. If we went out and were returning home, I would take them right upstairs, change their clothes, wash them up a little, pull the shades, turn on some soft music, and let them drift off to sleep. I had a cot that was in the room with them where I would lay down and sleep as long as they did. I think to this day that both of my children relax the same way coming home from work that I had them do when they were younger.

I love to listen musics, gardening and cleaning home. Once i reach my home i first switch on for some music channels or music system for good music. It makes me more relaxed even if i am in stress. Music is very close to my heart makes me feel fresh and energetic. Most of the time i spend like this when i am in home alone. Other than this i will concentrate on my routine works. I plan out for each and every work to be done by me. I will follow the planner and complete my works to keep me relaxed. How do you people spend your time at home?

hemasriram,
You seem to have relaxing down to an art and so organized...lol I try to not be so organized when I want to relax. If I had a "TO DO" list of things to do when I was home I don't think that I could relax that way, but for you it seems to work.

Well I'm a home buddy type of person so being just at home relieves from stress. When I get home I usually have a snack and settle to a chair or on my bed to rethink how my day went. After that I picked up a book, listen to music or watch tv. Nothing too loud for me, silence is much better.

abcnadz,
Now that's what I miss, a garden. Living in an apartment about the closest thing that I can get to for gardening is keeping house plants. My grandparents had a huge backyard garden. When I was a child I use to think that playing in the dirt was the best thing I could do, but now I know why they gardened, to relax.

Me too. My favorite part of day is when I get home from work and get everything settled and put away. Then I get out my laptop and turn on the tv and say hi to my dog. I love it. I have to be careful not to like it too muuch though because I go out sometimes wit hother people and find myself actually longing to be back at home relaxing. Tonight I am getting to relax. I am trying to enjoy because tomorrows going to be crazy.

csrobin,
I love my laptop and being able to relax with it sometimes. It's wireless and I love not having to figure out how to settle with all the cable hanging over the bed. I have days that I purposely schedule my tome off the net though, because you can get lost in it.

Awwww...you own a kitty like me ...And like you my kitty always comes up the front door to greet me...Oh i can't begin to tell you how much that makes my day...haha Usually i'll settle myself infront of the tv, skim through the channels before getting myself a nice warm shower that calms and relaxes my whole body...Afterwards i'd take a nice short nap before having to tackle my pile of assignments that needs to be done...Home is the best place for us to be ourselves after all, it's a no brainer that everyone would be relaxed and comfortable in their own home.

mira91,
I love my kitty. She's like my shadow. If I go to visit a friend in the building I take her with me. I'm disabled and at times I have to take my scooter to get around and Mousie will sit with me and go for the ride. I had another kitty that loved to go with me, but when he was ready to go back to his home he'd just quietly sit on the seat of the scooter and face the door. That was his way of telling me that he was ready to leave.
I don't thibk that I could really call it a home if I didn't have a kitty to greet me at the door and still be able to relax.

I think one of the best way to relax is at my home, simply because i feel more comfortable, makes me feel so calm and relax. Since i love decorating my home its helps me feel good whenever i see those jars, picture frames, etc. I also love to watch television but most i prefer to play video games, it doesn't only makes me feel relax but also stimulate me.

When I want to relax I make sure to get comfortable by taking off my shoes and just kicking back. I usually turn on the TV and watch TV for awhile and if that isn't what I really want to do I'll get online for awhile or something. Sometimes I'll read a book or watch a movie. It really just depends on how bored I am and what I really would like to do or what I find relaxing at the time.

highflyingxangel,
I think think taking off shoes is the first anyone's list of things to do when thy want to relax. I stay bare footed just about all the time when I am home. I only wear slippers or sockies when it's cold in the winter time. My father use to tell me to put my slippers on because he wasn't raising a hillbilly. Well, guess what dad? I love being a hillbilly!...lol It relaxes me.

I enjoy going to my laptop to visit sites like wonderful My Lot. Taking my two dogs out for a walk is really enjoyable. I like to sit a read an interesting book. I enjoy having a warm bath with some lovely fragrant lavender or mint liquid soap. I like to listen to a disk of music. Simple things in my home make me happy too.

I love being home and feel there is not a more relaxing or happier place to be. It is just so warm and comfortable here that doing anything is relaxing. We have a big sectional that just wraps around your body and closes you in. Seeing the faces of my beautiful children and my loving husband is just so great..we all like to huddle on the couch and put in a good movie and relax.
At night time once the kids are in bed I like to grab my laptop and jump online for awhile until I get tired...

froggieslover,
I use to a big, brown sectional couch that had a sofa bed to it. It was so comfy. My mother, brother, sister and the cat and dog use to gather around and claim their favorite spots to it. We all watched hours of tv on that thing. I would love to get one now that has the lounge chairs to either end to it.
