Life has it's ups and downs

Fallen pine tree - Pine tree which fell in our front yard after a storm in our area Sunday night.

We have had lots of problems with our yard since the property next door was excavated for a proposed Bingo Gambling joint. Every time it rains, the water runs off into our yard, keeping it like a soup hole. Takes forever for it to dry up, and it hasn't since last September since it has rained so much. The rains have made lots of our tree limbs fall and our yards were in a mess. Two weeks ago, we waded through the mess and had our yards looking good. We also mowed the grass that wasn't wet. Well, Sunday night/Monday morning, we had another storm which did the same thing. Only thing, this time one of our large pine trees in the front of our house fell. We were fortunate in that it fell towards the road, not toward our house. Had it hit our house, it would have gotten the middle, right in our living room. The rain water pouring from next door has kept our grounds saturated and therefore, our trees (pines have short roots) are becoming saturated and we fear more will fall. Below is the tree that fell. Under the roots, there is a huge hole of water standing. So we know our field lines for the septic tank are probably saturated, too. The company has been notified by the department in charge for Alabama that they aren't in compliance and have been given 30 days to fix it. But, so far, we've seen absolutely nothing from them.

I don't know how you stand it. This would completely infuriate me, and I'd be calling someone to complain my head off about that property next door!!

Yes, it's so unfair. You should have a say in what sort of things go into your community, including businesses and other such things. I'd be so angry if I were you, I'd be spitting nails and razor blades!

Oh, my husband has talked with the authorities many times. It takes time for paper work to go out, and then the company has to reply. They take their time complying, though. Perhaps they'll get stuck with a legal bill and won't finish the job over here! I pray that our governor gets this illegal business in that county stopped anyway. There is no need for this to be stuck out here in our door in the country!

Oh I hope the company in charge should not just neglect it coz it's really a mess when you're always disturbed with all the damages the property is causing.

If they neglect to do what they were supposed to do, they face heavy fines and possible jail time. I think they should have to make restitution to us, as well! Putting up the thing isn't going to take away the damage it has already caused.

It seems like they are stalling. Thinking if they ignore you long enough you will quit complaining, but do not give up. I take it they still have not decided what they are doing? They should have to do some drainage design to alleviate the flooding in your yard.

The excavating done by the building company was not done property. They didn't put up the silk screens that are mandatory. My husband turned them in to ADEM which is the enviromental people. The complaint was then filed against them, giving them time to fix things. The guy from ADEM told my husband to file another complaint yesterday which he did. They'll be sending him out again to look the situation over. He knows how bad it is and told my husband we had a good law suit against them.Only thing is we don't have the kind of money it takes for a law suit to match the lawyers they'd get, I am sure. The drainage problem should have been taken care of when they first started. You haven't seen the half of it. The property over there in itself is a mess.AND, if they build the bingo hall, it's a disaster waiting to happen!
