Some people I know bake their cakes from scratch.I personally have never done that most of the time I bake cakes from a mix. But,since we have been living in a place with no oven then I have been buying my cakes already baked from the bakery department in the grocery store.
Which do you do mostly?

Right now we do not have an oven.I used to see some cake mixes that we could bake in the microwave, that were good.but,I cannot find them anymore.Even when I had an oven I would buy a pre-made cake for a birthday party or if I didn't have time to bake one for a dinner or if I saw a nice one and wanted it.I usually wanted a carrot cake one.

I don't bake cakes from scratch but love eating those that are baked from scratch. I'm sure it'd be fun to make and I'd love to try it out sometime! I think though that since I don't bake presently, I'd have to say that I'd prefer to get them from the box for now. To save money in the future I might just buy it from the bakery, or if it's less expensive to make it from scratch (which I can only assume it is) then I'd bake it from scratch.

I bake my own cakes, but sometimes I will use a mix. But I have not done that for a while. The only time we will buy a cake is if it is a birthday or something special like that. And that is because I am a terrible decorator. So in that case, we will buy one. Now that there is just the two of us, there is no use me making any cakes unless it is for company.

If I am making something like a yellow or chocolate cake I will use a mix. When I make special cakes like spice or something like that I make it from scratch. I didn't even know there was a mix for spice until I took one somewhere and some woman asked me which box mix I used for it. I almost fell over since I had been making them for so long.

I used to bake cakes from scratch, and I still love doing that. It's not that hard really, especially when everything's already in your kitchen. What I don't like is having to go buy the ingredients. Though I don't mind the brownie mix and muffin mixes. I love the muffin mixes, coz I love having them for breakfast and it's a lot quicker than from scratch. I also buy the cake at times. It just depends on the mood. Am I in a great baking mood? Then from scratch. Am I in the mood for making some treats and having them right away? Then the mix. Am just in the mood for something sweet right now? Buy the cake. I usually like cakes with no frosting on it though. I dunno, frosting's too sweet for me. I can't handle it.

I agree... There are so many chemicals and preservatives and everything else in our food nowadays, unless you buy organic or pay through the nose, the only person you can trust to prepare your food is yourself.
I stick to the recipe my home ec teacher drummed into us when we were kids. 50, 50 , 50 and one egg... 50g butter, 50g self-raising flour, 50g caster sugar and an egg beaten together... Butter then flour on the baking tin, mixture in and bake till risen. So easy and yummy!!!
How do you make yours?

I do mine from the mixes. I have often wondered if it was any cheaper to make them from scratch.

My husband and I keep one box of cakemix in the store room, incase we want to bake a cake for a midnight snack. LOL That's exactly what we did last week. It was a load of fun. We baked a chocolate cake at midnight one night, because we were just in the mood for cake. LOL
