I am afraid of heights, but when i start to climb mountains, all the fear is gone now. Its tiring but its worth your time, most especially when you see the whole surroundings when your at the top of the mountain. Its like your bigger and nothing can harm you. You can shout all your worries, problems, hate and anger. Its really a nice experience.

Mountain climbing isn't dangerous, if you follow the safety rules that is. When you reach the peak, it will be very amazing. If you don't want to go you don't have to. Just tell them why. My friend doesn't like cave venture but I do. Still, I didn't force her to tag along after she told me she's scared of close place. I might be a bit dissapointed since I want her to feel happy as me but that doesn't mean I should force her to do something that she doesn't like.

rocketsky,
Perhaps, you might want to try out rock climbing which is an indoor sport for feel and experience.
Height phobias are never permanent and could be managed and overcome eventually. Rock climbing on the whole is mostly indoors and safe. There will be qualified and professional instructors at hand to teach and senior members to help ensure safety for the new and younger members.
Cheers.

I have seen the mountains, and even been up in them, but I have never climbed one. I think that it would be scary, but fun at the same time, and well worth it in the end. I would suggest taking the safety precautions that you are told to take, and then, have a great time. It may be the only opportunity that you haveto climb a mountain in your life. Go for it!

Being afraid of heights is not uncommon. If you can not overcome your personal fear, then do not do it. If you learn and follow the proper safety procedures, you might have a really good time. You never know what you are capable of doing until you try. If you start to climb the mountain and get halfway, and then you feel you need to stop..........fantastic. At least you tried. Go as far as you can comfortably. Know your limits. But allow yourself to try.

Mountain climbing is dangerous. If you are afraid of climbing and afraid of going in high places I would not go mountain climbing if it was me. It is very hard to mountain climb. I don't speak from experience but I do like to watch on television mountain climbers. It is not a easy thing to do and you need to be sure of yourself to do something like that.

I have read the other responses and going rock climbing would be a good way to see if you might not like mountain climbing. It will give you a small taste of what climbing on a mountain is like somewhat. Than you could make a better decision if this is something you want to try. If you decide you don't want to try this if they are good friends they will be sorry you are not going but will not push you to climb if that is what you don't want to do.

I could never do climbing as like you I too am afraid of heights, not only that the thought of falling and really hurting myself does not help the matter, so there is no way I could do that...littleowl

I am afraid of heights. Some friends have invited me to climb a mountain as well but since I know myself, I don't joined them. because I was thinking that I could be the cause of delay if I join them. I see myself backing out every time we climb higher. And I don't want that to happen. I don't want them to get mad at me for the hassle I might give them.

hahaha, i guess it is quite common for people to fear great heights...I've done it before, even though i've never actually managed to reach the peak, it's definitely quite an experience climbing the mountains. To me, it is okay because i enjoy the outdoors and the heights don't really scare me that much...I mean i do get a little scared, but not too scared to actually avoid it..So sometimes i'd participate in rock climbing and have done the flying fox and all..it's fun mann! ^_^ If i could ever bungee jump, i'd do it! haha ^_^

If I will be given a chance and time to go on a mountain climbing then I would really want to go. I've never been climbed a mountain and I want to see lots of beautiful sceneries from there after when you're on the top. :D
