What can we do to stop the war?

Obviously the ever-impending war can't be stopped by you and me, because its already in movement, its already taking place, though at present chiefly on the psychological level. As its already in movement it can't be stopped. The issues are too many, too great, and are already committed. We can see what creates war, and if we are interested in stopping war, than we can begin to transform ourselves, who are the causes of war. Religious, economic, political, obviously belief, either in nationalism, in an ideology, or in the particular dogma, if we had no belief, but goodwill, love and consideration between us, then there would be no wars. But we are fed on beliefs, ideas,, and dogmas, and there for we breed discontent. The present crisis is of an exceptional nature and we as human being must either pursue the path of constant conflict and continuous wars, which are the result of our everyday action, or else see the causes of war and turn our back upon them. To bring peace in the world, to stop all wars, there must be revolution in the individual, in you and me. To put an end to sorrow, to hunger, to war, there must be a psychological revolution, and few of us are willing to face that. We will not win peace because we won't give up our position, authority, money, properties, our stupid life. No leader, no goverment no army, no country are going to give us peace.

Why do you desire for their to be no war? If war ceases, then peace ceases as well because they are opposites needing each other. I think the concept of "peace" should be something individuals seek in light of war. Wars are entirely fueled by governments and religions, not so much "the people." We have soldiers who do the duty of the government or religion, but the forces that are truly fighting are beyond physical beings with weapons. It is government vs. government, religion vs. religion. Unless you remove governmental boundaries and religion as a whole from the world, war will continue. Most wars are fought for stupid, generally selfish reasons. When you admit that to yourself you will notice there is no end to them. Back to my earlier point, you should seek peace within yourself and with those around you. That is peace. Peace is not this fictional idea of everyone in the world loving each other. Peace is a never ending concept. Peace exists in the same way that war exists, however many people tend to be ignorant of its existance. Perhaps this is because the media always shows us war and violence, and when some of us go to church the majority of sermons these days are about the end of the world and how the Earth is going to be cleansed (or whatever). Our troubled minds are so focused on the wars of the world that so many of us forget to pay attention to ourselves and find pleasure in the most simple things that so many take for granted. I like walking in the woods just because it is so peaceful. Strangely when I go there (to this public park, usually) there is hardly any people. That kind of shows me what people value now a days.

People don't value properly now a days. Peace is not a fictional idea. It's not a concept either. When there's peace wars cease. I'd like to ask you a question, sir. What's peace?

Peace is simply happiness amidst war (among other hardship-type things). My idea is very similar to the idea of their being no good without evil (and vise versa). If all things are at peace, then peace is non-existant simply because their is no opposite. True peace is the ideal many societies and individuals hold (I do not), simply because this form of peace removes the entire purpose people desire peace in the first place: hardships.

Hi OneEyedGiant, Thanks for posting this discussion and few would not agree with you. Peace, if t ever comes must come from the individual. There are many things that contribute to war and sad to say, religion has always been seen as a major player. The fact is however, we have often used religion as a cover up for our greed. Religion itself is man made and nothing like the founders intended for most of them, if not all, taught a way of life not what we call religion today. That way of life, if followed would bring peace but man with his continual lust for money and power has corrupted their teachings and the masses have been indoctrinated with the thought that war rather than peace is the answer. Will it continue for another century or more? That I think depends on the generations yet unborn and whether or not we destroy the planet by our actions. Blessings.
