How would you look at old people?

What are your ideas at the thought or at the look of old people? Sometimes I have a very soft corner for them. I feel very much sorry for them when they are deserted by their sons or daughters. They would feel desperate on their loneliness. I have come across a few old people who have found it hard even to find a square meal a day!

Tht is very true...too many of the elderly are neglected by their families and also the Government. They deserve better, and if it weren't for them we wouldn't be here.

Very thoghtful question cudamani. Old people are always thought as old codgers and are most neglected in a society. People do not realize it is because of them that we are living happily and safe. Many of the parents live in houses for the old which according to me is not a good thing. We should always respect the older people and look after them.

I think that the older people on our society should be treated with respect. They have been through a lot in their lives and have earned respect. It bothers me a lot to see older people struggling to make ends meet, or to be neglected by their own family members. If I know an elderly person who needs a hand, I do my best to help them, even if they only eant someone to talk to for a little while. As you said, often, they are alone, and very lonely. Many of them have lost their spouses and are holding on to whatever they have left as tight as they can. They deserve to be able to live in the homes they worked so hard to obtain, rather than be moved into a place where they are uncomfortable.

Well, we often hear that most of the older people tend to put aside from our society, believing that they are already useless and not capable to contibute the society so most often they send to nursing homes and spend their remaining time there. But i see older people with respect because they gone through a lot of things and contribute before and without them perhaps we are also not here or will probably not be a good society at present. Older people for me deserves respect for their good works that was done on their time and most of the young people would learn them a lot of things that might be very helpful in the future, They deserve equal treatment since they are part of the society and never be viewed as useless.

I feel respect for them and try to act quiet, calm, and gentle around them. I also try to help them as much as I can. Like opening the doors or lifting heavy thing for them.

I put myself in their spot. After all, we are all going to be there some day. I see some of them who are neglected by their families and I feel bad for them. On the flip side, I try to make sure that I am the kind of mom that my family is not going to want to neglect. My own mother was not the nicest person when I was younger. She must have done something right because I did show her respect even if I didn't always feel it. When she reached a point in her life where she needed 24/7 care, my brothers and I all pulled together to see that she got it and avoided the nursing home which was her biggest fear. Thankfully, our time together resulted in some deep talks in which I came to understand her perspective better. I was able to make peace with the hard feelings. Good thing because once the dementia kicked in, her mean streak came out in full force at times. As a parent, I think it would be better to be on good terms with the family prior to reaching that point in life. Not to say that it is always the fault of the parent but you have to consider that there could be another side to the story.

well i too become sad if i see any old person lonely ,sitting in a corner having nothing to do , but most of the time im not able to do anything for them. those children who without repaying their parents for wht they did for them should be punished.i think it is a crime to take advantage of a person when u r weak and when u become strong enough u dont help the person who helped u when u were weak.

HI Cudamani. I have a very soft heart for the elderly. I took care of both my grandmothers when they got old and could not do things for themselves any longer. It was so sad, to have know them when they were up and doing anything they could and then seeing them get old and could not even help theirselves with things. Its really sad to see the elderly when family members desert them. Even sometimes to see them in nursing homes, when no one would take care of them and they had to be put in one. So very sad to me.

I do have a soft corner for old people. They have done so much in their lives, sacrificed their luxuries so that they can give the best of facilities to their children and the same children, after growing up, do not care for them. This is ridiculous and should be punishable by law. They need someone to talk to, to tell stories and to spend time with. Unfortunately they do not get a lot of company.

Actually I somehow admire this old people for being able to survive the challenges of their lives. Though it is t tough, they are tougher than live to sustain a living.

In my opinion, i think we should respect the old, I like the old people, because, I can learn more life calue from them, and it is what we can't learn in our own. And they are very kindly and always tell some story which we can;t and never experienced.

Most of the time, old people are considered useless or a hinder. It's wrong to think of them in that way and we should always remember that when we were young, our parents took care of us and sacrificed a lot for us and now that they're old we should learn to give back.
