Do cats' really have 9 lives?

Many people says that cats' have 9 lives. Do you believe in it?
Why or why not?

Many people believes the superstition that cats have 9 lives. Its because that cats have ability to survive in the situation that would kill human or other living beings. Cats stand in greater chance to survive if it falls from higher place than lower place. Falling from higher place, gives a chance to stand on all four paws. Since it lands on four paws, the impact of landing is absorbed by its paws. Science has proved that if it falls from lower place, there is a great chance to die.

I don't think so. Cats are really smart animals with tremendously precise and fast reflexes compared to us. So they can survive in hazardous events where most of us and other animal fail. This might be the reason behind the evolution of this belief. Therefore the wording actually does not say that cats are enjoying 9 lives yet symbolize the above described features of the animal. By the way in some parts of the world people say cats have 7 lives instead of 9.

I can agree to your statement above but not in this:

Eh??? Cats can die in that?
How come?
Anyway,is it written in the book or in any web?

It is a nice idea.
I think this has to do with witch craft.
In the early years, witches always had cats.(a cat)
Seems the 9 lives came from there.

I don't believe that. Like other being we have one life, so it is a superstitious belief. I don't think cat have 9 lives. It isbelief that pass through generation. There is no proof to this belief that the cats have 9 lives. I think cats associate in reincarnation like what the Egyptian do to their cats.

I am not agree on it totally,but I think it is reasonable to some extent. for example,cat has a big tail,which can play a role when cat fall down from a high place.And it has cute outside in order to get enough food from strangers.in a word, cat has some ability to live in the world.

this comes from its special body construction.
assume the situation that a cat fall off a very high building.
it flies in the sky right like a squirrel,with its four paws extended to a planem,and it produced a high level of resistance against the air.
when it falls onto the floor,his soft body become a perfect buffer for the crash.
it has nine lives partly because it suivive in situations that human beings and other animals can't bear
