Tax hike & Tobacco

United States

Ok I'm married to a smoker and I don't like that he smokes but I feel they can find other things to tax to death beyond smokes. Seriously, I think this is totally unfair to punish the consumer for something they support!?!?! Am I wrong to think this?? I don't know how accurate the data is but man I can think of other places to spend half a billion dollars on?!?!? The subsidizing of farmers http://farm.ewg.org/farm/progdetail.php?fips=00000&progcode=tobacco only to punish the consumer. I swear the only reason cigs are legal is to tax the heck out of them and keep farms going.

Well if people are addicted they keep buying them, not that they can afford them nor that they want to make other sacrafices to get their nicotine fix. I think one thing they have the biggest problem with trying to quit is they need something to do with their hands... MyLotting would be a great alternative ;0) But you can lead the horse to water you cannot make them drink.

We are also working on quitting. We roll our own and our weekly bill went from around 20.00 to over 60.

It was reasonable for hubby to roll his own before the hike. What he spent every 2-3 weeks rolling his own is what he spent in one week. But I agree it's gone up drastically, too drastically. Good Luck with your efforts in quitting
