I can remember I have started a discussion on "Honesty is a best policy" before and I got yelled for being honest by the person I was returning money. Later on I got the point that honest is really a best policy.
But, now yesterday I was watching a daily Soap on TV. It is on Zee TV which is being shown at 2130 hrs in India. I don't know how many of you watch it!
The story is that a guy needed to have Rs 10000 for his girl's marriage and he is that poor that if he doesn't work for a day then his child can't get food. So, he was thinking of how to get money in front of a temple. Then he saw that a precious jewellery got dropped by a women(unintentionally). Instead of retaining it, he chose to return it to the woman.(I was impressed). Well, after that the woman yelled him and called him a theife!
This imposes the question again. I know that you guys would say that honesty still is a best policy but the question is different. Here I am asking that if TV daily soaps show this kind of incident, won't it give a bad impact on children (Glad that I have no children this time).
So, will you suggest me to register a case against this channel?

Hi sanu!
I can see the point you are making!
I would hope that if children were watching that soap that there would be an adult who would explain that it was just a one-off incident and that it is ALWATS best to be honest.
As we cannot be sure that children would not be watching then yes I think you could definately bring this up with the channel that shows this soap. Children will definately NOT be learning a good lesson from tha particular incident

Here comes the mys again! Hi pal, how are you doing?
Do you know that this discussion was in my mind for last three days but I couldn't get the suitable title. Today, I gave up and put it in front of you.
Am glad that you got my point. Either that serial be rated R+ or it must not be shown. I don't know if I will go and file a case against them but yes certainly I would make a group of people for sure!

There is no way that one can report about a TV show in India. In fact, the situation here is peculiar. There is stiff competition and continuous survey is conducted by all TV channels about their shows. They change story accordingly. In fact, these shows are meant for woman....but I am perplexed, sanu is watching these 'only for woman shows'.

I think that this type of scean in the soaps it done for dramitic porposes. It can be explained to children what the context of the sean is. that man is being honest but is being falsey acused. you can register a complait if you wish but I do not think it will help. sceans in this soaps can give a bad inpresion on young children for sure but like said, it up to the parent to teach him or her relity vs. fiction.

I wouldn't allow a child to watch soaps. It is not the kind of program that is good for a child to watch. But that being said yes it would teach a child the wrong thing. Because what it would be saying is that if you are honest you could get yourself in trouble. No I would not suggest for you to register a case against this channel because that kind of program is not the kind for a child to watch. And I am sure that is what the channel would bring up.

Hi sanuanu,
I am doing fine. I had my follow up today on my foot surgery and things are heeling up good.
There is just so much garbage on television any more. It is not good for kids to watch televison unsupervised. If there is a television in the house I think two things. 1. Parents should know what their kids are watching on television and 2. Kids should only be allowed to watch television for a designated amount of time. My grandkids only watch television for a hour a day most times. They are not interested in watching television. They would rather be outside. So I don't think television is a bad thing. What makes it bad is how you make use of the television.

Discipline is what required.
One of my aunt just cut the cable connection for her TV because her 8 year child was not paying attention on his study.
We in our child age, didn't use to watch TV for more than 2 hours in a day because that time TV uses to show programs for not more than 2 hours!

Indeed, patience is a virtue. If they would not show that then there must not be a value to his honesty. till now, he is fighting and I don't know how long his fight will last against "Balli Bhaiya". I think the mother has already traded her daughter with this devil!

These are realities which is actually happening in poor villages. I have keep hearing this news that a couple sold their kid girl for only Rs 200 or Rs 1000. It is hard to believe and that is why I like this daily soap.
Not to mention my brother doesn't like it at all!

Well TV soaps on any channel gives a very very negative Image. How about a wife killing a husband in order to live with her lover. Plotting Mom in laws to oust their Bahus. A girl tryin to seperate husband and wife becuase she loves the husband. Any channel you turn on, you will find soaps of this nature. If you are planning for a ligitation you need to put forth a case against all TV channels and all soaps. Becuase most of these so called mega-serials or mega-soaps are filled with negative messages. But who should you blame? SHould the blame lie on TV channels for producing these types of soaps or should the blame lie on people for watching them for years and encouraging the producers to develop more of these so called serials? And who will you try to take legal action against? Yes it is a negative impact on society. But all the people should realize it and shun soaps like this. IF the TRP ratings come down for these soaps, the TV channels will be automatically forced to withdraw these kinda serials!

The only problem with TV serials are that they are providing only uni directional communication and it is very difficult to give our opinion on a TV serial. Mos of the TV serials are running because house ladies have no jobs but to watch TV. if every channel is showing the same thing then they will watch some of them and hence the TRP would increase. So, it is not us who should be blamed the blame must be on Bala Jee Telefilms. Now a days, I think that Saas bahu serial is out of contention now and serials based on girls are getting popular.
I think this is a good step TV producers have made because in our country girls's situaion is very bad and we are constantly watching the ratio boys to girls getting higher and higher. So, it has been showing a little maturity now.
As for this TV soap, apart from this act, I enjoy it very much.

In that case children watches tv series should be properly guided. Television sometimes is so awful. It depicts/portrays violent things which is harmful to kids. It is not surprising that there are so much cruelties happening today coz of the impact of television. Children, if not properly guided could somehow emulate what they have seen, children who watches tv more tend to be more aggressive than those who are not. Though in the other side of the coin tv gives information, it updates people from every place.

Installing moral values is also very important for us. I can remember I was being told stories from my grand father and grand mother but now a days, kids hardly have time to sit with their grand parents.
let's hope that my kids would follow what I followed in my life.

Hi sanuanu! It does seem that the show exhibits a bad example for honesty. I think that children will see this and be afraid to be honset if they find domething that doesn't belong to them. Maybe even effect some adults too. I think that a letter to the station could be in order.

I don't think it can affect adults as my brother says, "Where in the world the director lives in? Doesn't he know that this guy is in extreme need of money, couldn't he show us the value for honesy, I mean come'on there is something called God in this world too!"
