Have you ever been called for Jury Duty?

I received a letter the other day stating that I was selected to appear for jury duty. I had mixed feelings at first thinking " I do not have time in my life for this right now!" and "UUGGHH!! Why ME?!" THen I thought "Wow this might be cool!" and "I should consider this an Honor and my Duty!" Then I read further and realised that they will dismiss me even before I get there. I had to let them know that I no longer live in the county they were looking for. I used to live there but moved almost 3 years ago. Oh, maybe next time. Have you ever been called for jury duty and if so did you actually make it on the jury? Were you an elective waiting to see if a jury will have to be dismissed? What were your feelings when you got that infamous letter?

I have been called to Jury Duty twice. But I have never gone. The first time I was in college and when you are in college you can use that as a reason not to go. The other was when I had just moved to another county but I hadn't changed my registration yet. I have never been called in the county I live in now.

Hi Renemouche, College is a good reason for not going for jury duty. I had changed my address, license, and registration when I moved and about a year later is when I got the summons for jury duty for the county I used to live in. I have not been called in either for the county I am in now. Watch, I will get called in a few months from now. Hopefully we are moving to another county again, looking at houses to buy. That would be funny if I get called after I move again. Thanks for your response and have a great day.

I got a jury duty letter once when I was in college. Being in school is an acceptable reason for being unable to attend jury duty. So I had to write them a letter or something like that explaining I was in college and had to reschedule my jury duty. It was a long time ago, I don't remember exactly. But I haven't gotten another letter since. My brother got one of those jury duty letters recently, but it was a couple months after he'd moved, and like you he was living in a different county.

Hey Trickiwoo, I guess being in college is a good reason to be excused from jury duty. I never had to write a letter back to them, I just had to make a phone call and tell them my address and I was dismissed. I am not sure how they pick the names to send these letters too, but they need a better system so they know if we moved or not. Maybe someday we will get picked again and will have to fulfill our duties. Thanks so much for your response and have a great day.

I've been registered for about four years now and so far, I have not been selected for jury duty yet. No doubt sooner or later I will though.

Hey Darth, I am sure your day will come as all of ours do. I am hoping that the next time I am summoned, I will be able to full fill my duty.

Hi, I have been called for jury duty 4 times. First time my boss was about ready to on maternity leave and couldnt have me miss work so she got me off jury duty that time. Second time I want even living in the state that wanted me to serve on jury duty so I was dismissed for not living in the state I had moved from before. Third time I had a number to call to see if I would be needed and I was dismissed before I even had to serve and the fourth time I had to go in but I was dismissed because I was sleepy and must have looked tired and not intrested so I again had to call a number to see if I need to go in again but was dismissed.I was only paid for mileage and 10 dollars a day so I made 16 dollars for jury duty.

Hi Ds6413, Thanks for your response. Wow! Four times, that seems like a lot for one person. I know Jury Duty doesn't pay for much but at least they give you something. I am surprised that you still got called for it from a state you had moved from, I thought it was strange that I got called from a county I moved from. That just goes to show that someone is not doing their job when we change our address. Thanks again and have a great day!
