I had a brain wave. I have a large packet of English Breakfast Sausages in the freezer that I am using for dinner tonight. Just called my DIL to defrost them. I will cook them in the oven until they are about three quarters cooked in a little oil.
Then I will make a batter from eggs, flour and milk, add some salt to the batter and add the batter to the dish that contains the sausages cooking in the hot oil.
Then leave it for about 15 -29 minutes until the batter is cooked and risen. Meantime make a large salad or cook veggies and serve sausage dish from pan to plates and eat.
I was wondering what to do with the sausages. Have you ever made toad in the hole or something similar to this?

what you call pigs in a blanket we would call sausage rolls. No, you make a batter and the batter has to be poured into the same pan as the sausages. I am amazing myself of thinking about this dish as it was a childhood favourite in the U.K. Definitely a cheap dish as the batter is really filling. sometimes served with mashed potatoes and a thick gravy.

I saw it on Top Chef, the cooking competition show on Bravo. It's cooking an egg in the middle of a piece of toast. There is a hole cut out from the toast where the egg goes. It seems like there was more to it, but that season was a couple of years ago. So I probably forgot some of the details.

Oh, now I rememeber. The bread is lightly fried in a frying pan and the egg put in the middle of the bread and it cooks this way. My memory is a bit off but I think this is how it is done.

In all my life I have never heard of anything closely resembling what you describe. I just had to read this discussion and find out what in the world you were talking about. Although, the name sounds disgusting, the recipe seems pretty good. I must try it sometime. Thank you for sharing it.

Yes, I agree, the nmae is awful I like your dish - it sounds easy to do. Do you buy a cornbread topping or make it from scratch? I love corn bread cornmeal porridge, corn meal dumplings but do not like fresh corn! Stupid isn't it?

My mother used to make it but it was a long time since I had it. We used to have it along with roast beef, potatoes, and a marinated salad. And we used to buy the sausages fresh from the butcher so there was no need to defrost them, and back then we had the ice boxes so defrosting would not have worked.
I should make it sometime, but for us it was sort of special. We had that on Sundays all the time. I did make sausage rolls, put sausages in pastry and baked them in the oven and the sausage was pre booked. Of course, pork sausage works best. Does not taste right with beef or beef and pork sausage mixed.

I often make toad in hole as it is one meal that we all enjoy in my house. I also make one with vegetarian sausages as me and my oldest son are both vegetarian.I actually taught myself to make it as it is something we never had when we were children.
You saying that has put me in form to make some, so guess what we will be having for dinner in our house tomorrow.

If you prepared salad, then you can eat your salad with sausage. But you prefer salad more then sauce becouse salad have good nutritious values.
