I was watching TV earlier and came across this cooking show on a PBS type station. The woman, I think her name was Lydia something, was cooking deep fried cream... not ice cream... regular cream. It was made with flour, milk, sugar, and a pinch of salt. I just don't remember exactly how much of each.
I tried to do a search on the web for this recipe, because it seems so interesting that I want to try it. But I can't find the recipe anywhere, all I can find are recipes for deep fried ICE cream!
Have you ever seen a recipe that you wanted to try but couldn't find it again? Have you ever heard of deep fried cream?

Are you sure that you got the name right? This sounds ot me like a fritter recipe. where you add an egg to the flour and then mix it and add milk. You then can add fruit like bananas or pieces of apples and then fry it in spoonfuls unitl brown and crispy. In my country we put in salted fish in the fritter mixture and fry it. You didn't make any reference to an egg though. So maybe I am all wrong! Excellent post. I too would like to find out what it is.

I don't know if this will help, but I did a quick search for deep fried cream and this sicilian recipe came up. I'm sure you could adjust it but it could be the base of what you were looking for.

I have the same problem and it usually drives me up the wall when I can't find what I am looking for. Maybe you can check to see if her show will have reruns and you can catch it later. Best of wishes on your hunt for the recipe! =]

Yes, that is it! I did so many searches but could not find it!
Only, on the show she didn't add any lemon or orange zest. Everything else was the same except that. She did say you could add it if you wanted, but she left it out.
Then at the end of this recipe it says something about flambe... she didn't do that either. Instead she sprinkled it with cinnamon and sugar!
I am definitly going to try this out. Thanks so much for finding it for me!

We must have been typing at the same time. The second one is the exact one I was looking for.
I did say in my post "not ice cream". There are thousands of recipes for fried ice cream... but this is the one I was looking for! Great, now I get to try it! Thanks.

Okay, so after searching some more because now this is going to bother me the sicilian's call this dish la crema fritta which means fried cream. Not icecream like you were explaining.
I'm not sure if this is the correct recipe but this is Lidia Bastianich's recipe for fried cream:

Hope that helped you out! =]

I have seen some fried ice cream (cooked without oil) here in my country and in Thailand sold in shopping malls but I have not heard of the deep fried ice cream. I am not sure if I am going to like that deep fried ice cream. Sorry but I have searched out all the resources on the internet and I didn't find a recipe for deep fried ice cream using a regular cream. I hope you can find it and satisfy your cravings.

I believe this is the lady you are referring to. http://www.createtv.org/CreateProgram.nsf/vHosts/Lidia%20Matticchio%20Bastianich
perhaps you could do a search on her recipies or you could see if your library carries one of her cook books.
I watch her but I don't care for most of the items she makes for some reason, I don't know why though.

Yes that is her, and I'm still scouring the internet looking for that recipe that I still can't find. I looked all over the website you just gave me, no luck! Well, I might be able to figure it out on my own.

I've noticed you usually have to look up most recipies in their cookbooks it seems unless they have a video of the particular episode you were watching. I have noticed some days they repeat the shows 2x during the same day it's just catching it again.

Making recipe by seeing on tv or readin on any sites is itself very typical issue. You can make but giving proper taste to this recipe is very typical at all.
