When is the last time you had a garage/yard/estate sale?

Call it whatever you want, although for an estate sale bigger things are usually sold. My parents used to go to them a lot at homes that were well to do. They got some good buys there. The weather is still fickle right now, but I'm planning a yard sale. I can't believe what kind of money state I'm in right now, and I know my mom has a lot of stuff she wants to get rid of, so I told her I'd get it all together for a yard sale.
I don't like sitting out front all day, but I think it will be worth it. I don't think I'll make a hundred dollars, but with all the stuff my parens have, they might! My dad just wants to take it all and throw it away. So anyway my mom will get her stuff together with my help, I'll get my stuff together, and then I plan on having the sale within the next couple of months. I haven't had a yard sale in years, although I've been to a couple since then. Usually during the summer my parents hit the yard sales on Saturday mornings. And of course the sale has to be at their house since I live in an apartment.
So when was your last one, or have you ever had one?

I have had many some successfull some not so, last one I had was last summer, but we live on a street where there isn't much traffic but the ones that live on here, so didn't do too much in sales. But I love to go to them, could spend all day just running from one to the other. We live in a town where a lot of the people are well to do and it seems that they buy things get tired of them fast and put them out for sale can get some really nice items there. I am always looking for something different, odd, old. I have never been to a estate sale. I know they into a lot of furniture. Bigger items.

Yardsales are not really that common where i live... but when i was working abroad... i would go to some just to get cheap household item that i need... like glasses or plates... i rarely buy clothes or shoes...
Last December, i was suppose to go to the Capital City because my friend was suppose to have a yardsale... but she decided not to go through with it because her father offered to buy everything... so too bad for me... because i wanted to buy her washing machine...

I've never had one myself, but I've been to plenty! I used to love going to yard sales and flea markets, but especially the yard sales. You really can find some unbelieveable stuff at them.
I caught on to one pretty early on, though. I noticed that they had a yard sale every single weekend the weather was nice. How could they POSSIBLY have all this stuff??? I found out. Once, while shopping at a Goodwill store (I love them, too... just like a big yard sale!) I saw the woman who had the yard sales every weekend with a cart FULL of stuff. She bought things from Goodwill, marked them UP, and tried to sell them at her yard sales. Actually, she had her own little mini-flea market going on!
I suppose she was making money with them, because she continued having them.
I've thought about it a few times, but I'd be a sucker for anyone who wanted to haggle with me about the price. I'd be talked down every time! LOL
Good luck with yours! I wish you lived near me so I could come to it. I haven't been to any in years!

I had a yard sale last year and posted signs a week ahead of event and gave direction I did not have one person stop by it was a disaster.
I plan to take my stuff to a flea market and pay for a table to sell there.

I have not had a sale in ages, because it never felt like the money was worth the time to me. I donate to Goodwill and get receipts. There is also a group from our church that provides usable household goods to families in need in our community. I have lots of stuff, but it is not stuff anyone else would give much money for. Good luck on your sale. I was wondering, because I knew you live in an apartment.

That is what I normally do. I get calls from the Salvation Army, Prevent Blindness, Vietnam Vets...and I always have stuff to give them. A couple of months ago I dropped off some stuff at Goodwill. But this time, even though I know the money won't be much, I have to try. Any money made will help me.

We have a family garage sale every year. Four households and we always have it at my mother's house. We do pretty well and with the extra people, the work is minimized. I have quite a mess in my house right now, our sale is in 8 days. We also sell refreshments, this makes us about 10-20 bucks.

Yes, my dear, about 5 years ago! And it was the poorest wages I have ever been paid! LOL! I followed all the guidelines, spent days sorting everything to proper tables, pricing, cleaning...truly, it took days, and I would go out each nite and cover the tables with plastic! Lots of brilliantly colored signs & balloons in all the high traffic areas! And I, in the past have been a Saturday morning "garage/yard saler"...so my prices were set accordingly...at the end of two days, I was just richer in knowledge!
There was one ethnic group, that came back 5 times, for a box of Fishing Tackle that my son had priced at $30.00, and it displayed more than $180.00 in brand new (still in package)lures/line/weights...they offered $10.00, and each time they came back and it still was there...they would drop their price, final offer $1.00, what a hoot.....you'll get rich in knowledge, and you can bank on that! Just hope you are a lot more successful than I...and you have cold, hard cash to take to the bank! What I did learn is to price higher than what I wanted, and be prepared to bargain! TRULY...GOOD LUCK! Cheers!

My family has had a couple over the years, and we've also helped with a church garage sale. We aren't counting on a lot of money, and I'm prepared for bargaining. I want so much to get rid of stuff that I'll probably be easy to bring down on a price. LOL

I truly, wish you the best of LUCK....a beautiful sunshiney day....and so much traffic you need a "traffic director" and a dedicated "cashier"....and there is absolutely NOTHING to pack up at the end of the day! Cheers!

Hi ambie! I have never had one, but my neighbors sure have!
The do one or two in the summer and fall with some of their
friends who don't even live around here and they seem to do
pretty well! I usually just throw things out and I shouldn't!
I know my stuff would sell! I just get so aggravated when I'm
cleaning that I have no patients or anywhere to put it until
I can get a sale together! And I sure could use the money!
I love to go to other peoples sales! I think they're great!
You can buy some really cool stuff! I always find something to
buy! I think they're a great idea! I just don't know why I
don't do one!

I had one about a year and a half ago. We surprisingly made some decent money. I think location is the key to success. We might have one this year also. The baby is growing out of her things and we have no use for them anymore. We have WAY too much stuff in our house. I hope we can sell most of it before having to throw it out.

We have tons of consignment shops in our area so they don't seem to sell as well as you would think in our area. I'm also considering selling them on craigslist. We try to give them away to people that we know too or donate them to a local charity.

Usually my sister is the one that has them and I will throw a few things on it. This year I am planning to have one and hope it goes over well. I love going garage saling but usually don't get around to it. I always buy things I don't even need or the things I do need (kids clothes) I can never find their sizes at garage sales.

I am having one in a couple of weeks.....I used to go to them but like you I bought things I didn't really need and found myself either giving it away or pitching it.....I have found a few things that were good buys...one was a brand new pair of shoes and I still love them!

I had one once many years ago and I hated it so much that I've never had one since. I did a flea market twice and I hated that too. Now when I have something to get rid of, I either take it to an auction or donate it to a thrift shop for a tax slip. However, I attend other people's sales all the time and I love it as long as I'm on the shopping end. Just don't want to ever bother having my own sale again.

I had my first and last about 5 years ago and have managed to block alot of it from my memory. It was a terrible time for me. We were closing our foster home, we'd just lost a child we were planning to adopt and I was coming close to a nervous breakdown. I just hauled EVERYTHING out the door and practicly gave it away. I just wanted everything done with. I didn't want any memories around me. After I pulled myself together I couldn't believe what I had done.

I have never had a garage/yard/estate sale. I go to them a lot in the summertime, but I have never had one myself. There is a really big one down where I used to live every summer. The 61 MILE yard sale. It stretches 61 miles down highway 61.

i've moved out of a 6 room house 4yrs ago and had a big yard sale then, but didnt get rid of 1 third of it, then moved again to a small mobile home from my daughters house about a year and 4 months ago, had a yard sale then. then moved here last December to 2 small rooms in with my son and his gf. so, because she raised so much crap about all my stuff (which i still have to much of and cant bare to part with all)we had 2 sales since i've been here that hardly profited me over 50 bucks and im still dealing with storage stuff

actually my aunt just had one the first weekend of May, and I participated in it... and I did ok, I made $100.00 so that was productive for me... only I only sold like 1/4 of my stuff.
so another aunt is having a yard sale next month and I will put the stuff in there as well.... so I hope to get rid of more stuff then and make a little bit more money.
good luck with yours!!
