For me I often prefer watching the originals as many modern remakes rely on star names or special effects rather than quality acting and a great storyline. That's not to say all remakes fall into this category as there are some which are superior. For example the original Ocean's eleven was a good film but the remake is definitely superior. But then you take the Italian Job and the remake although is very good is not a patch on the original.
Probably the most enjoyable remake I have seen is Miracle on 34th Street, as in some ways is quite old fashioned and relies on a decent story rather than visual effects. That is not to detract from the original as it is definitely a classic.
As for the worst remake, well the latest Halloween serious disappointed and strayed too far from the original for my liking. Although I suppose that one is called a "re-imagining" rather than a remake.

Most of the movies the original was the best, but I found that Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice made the best remakes. However the Manchurian Candidate the first one was the best, because the evil was so subtle and she looked so ordinary that you never realized it until too late. I do think A Night to Remember was better then the Titanic. So there are a few movies where the original is best, and the one in which the sequel is best. The best where the sequels is one which takes in consideration the theme of the movie and does not put anything to make it more palatable to a modern audience and the same applies for the original.

I think the remakes are better because technology has advanced. I took my grandson to see the remake of Snow White. He loved Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and that was one of the last things I treated him to before he left this world. The strange thing is, we were going to see something else, which I can't remember now, and for some reason, we couldn't get into that cinema, so we had to go elsewhere. The remake was much better than the original of course... clearer and stereo sound toboot. He thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I.
Brightest Blessings, my friend.
