I don't feel lonely but have some ideas of how to overcome loneliness. My two dogs are loving and loyal companions. I adore going out for walks with them and meet other dog owners. Last year I joined an evening class to learn Spanish. The year before I joined a pregnancy group. I enjoy meeting up with friends quite often. Good luck.

For me, doing something for someone else helps my loneliness. Due to an illness in the family, many friends disappeared from our lives, they dont know how to cope or dont want to, so it can become very lonely. So, I started doing things to help other people and whether anything comes back in return or not, it helps me to cope better. I make baby blankets ,etc for the neonatal babies at a local hospital, helped set up a support group and some things like that for example.
My best friend is an internet friend I met through a common interest we had and we write daily. I have never seen her but we are close with our kids around the same age and alot of things in common. So you might try going to sites forums and make some internet friends.

i believe somehow we need to feel lonely for it is in these "alone" times do we and should realize how important our friends are. also, sometimes it is just plain boredom that we experience. it's always good to turn this lonesome feeling into something productive.
