The truth about government

I think most of us think of politics as a matter of right and left. But actually it's a range from No Government, to Total Government. The U.S started with the Articles of confederation, which was just an inch or so from No Government (on a 12 inch scale). But that didn't work so they went an inch or two farther and wrote the Constitution. Nowadays both of our parties (in the U.S.) are two and three inches away from Total Government (if even that). What do you think is desirable, less government or more? Smaller government or bigger?

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finaly, SOMEONE who gets it. I have been harping on this point, this whole left/right illusion, for a long time. It's a distraction, a false demon and a devisive tool.

I would prefer less government. And I would give more power to the states to govern their designated areas. Sure a lot of things need to be regulated and fixed within the system, but if could just go about these things in a different way, I think a lot more people would be content with less government. Too often the government has a "say so" in things I really don't feel should be under their jurisdiction.

Smaller all the way to the two inch mark. I am in love with your 12 inch scale because it makes sense. One can visualize this scale and place where the size of government through history has been.

Less is more, right? lol Small government's best. You gotta aim for a happy medium, you know? No government's not what's best for us all, but then total government is definitely not good for us either. Small but noticeable and active is best, let the people more or less govern themselves but look out for the general needs. That's ALL. You'd -think- it'd be simple, but considering our history of politics...apparently not. People tend toward extremes.

I am for smaller. I think they should get rid of anybody with the word assistant in their title. If the person cannot do the job, get someone else, not an assistant. We have to pay for WAY too many people who don't do a damn thing. Then get rid of half of the people who are left and the government might just start being a government instead of a wealth building business for politicians.

The concept of big government is inherently contrary to the constitution. When you look at the frame work for the document it's pretty clear that the fathers of the United States took careful precautions to limit the power of any given branch, and the branches would limit each other. Also in the Bill of Rights, the 10th Amendment guaranteed any powers not deliberately given to or prohibited by the federal government belonged to the states which is a subtle but efficient way of protecting the rights of smaller groups of people. Big government ceases to allow people to run their live and instead opts to run it for them, at the expense of others. Sure, most people would be welcome to the idea of socialized health care and free college tuition, but at what cost? Is any given person in their right mind wiling to give up the right to do what they want with their money and freedom to a government who historically can't really be trusted with that power? I'll take smaller government myself, let it be a framework for social order, and let me manage my own life.

We need a lot less government they are way to intrusive into our personal lives, our homes, our property and things we use. We do have taxes on taxes and they are wanting to take away more and more of our freedoms and rights. We need more states rights but we the people need to also tell the state legislature NO as well and mean it. If they want to raise taxes even in the state they need to first find other means to finding money. We have a lot of fat in government than can be eliminated. Jobs that are just there but do not much of anything for anyone. Spending on frivolities instead of really important issues and needs.

Less government and smaller government is what I want. Our government was only supposed to protect the country and produce currency for trade in the beginning and look where it has ended up!

I'm for smaller government just like our founding fathers were. I guess you want bigger government if you want them to do everything for you. I prefer to wipe my own butt rather than have someone standing over me waiting for me to finish so they can do it for me.
