i has a small aquarium 228 litter or around 40 gal of salt water aquarium... i read more article as well in 3 years.. from the first time... i really surprise with skimmer in the filtering water.. it's pull out the rubbish in your aquarium and make it clean... people said it's can lower your nitrate and phosphate... so how it's work... it's not exactly throw your nitrate and phosphate... but it's clean the algae in your water (not in the rock or glass) which eat nitrate and phosphate. and it's can bring out DOC or what like that... wow.... this is great filter... BUT... until i read about vodka... i just lost my trust with skimmer... because it's can bring the bactery or small creature going out from aquarium, either it's a good creature or bad creature... and i do many research until now... for the information my aquarium didn't use any skimmer or water changes in the long time... maybe around 6 months.. oh ya... i did 1 time... when my CA over 800... it's because my CA was over... and i can decrease my nitrate to 5 ppm the lowest i can get. and Phosphate low than 0.1 (you can imagine my top up water is 2 ppm) so we really depend on the expansive equipment like skimmer... which can bring out the source of food specially for coral.... i know one person who run a DSB and something strange and miracle in the night in his tank... a thousand maybe million of plankton come out from his bottom tank to the surface... wow.. and he run no skimmer in his tank for 2-3 years already so how do you think
