No this is not ritual nor religious act, I learned meditation with my college professor that Meditation is the best way to relax mind and refreshing our spirit against all odds of our life. It works effectively, in me. Doing meditation at least 30 mins is great, it also help those who are studying or taking board exams even those who are insomniac but of course doing this you should Mantra that is based on your persona.

Are you referring to TM? And what do you mean by mantra based on your persona? Could you clarify that? Namaste-Anora

Mantra on the other hand is a latin word given to a person based on his/her personality, this mantra is used when meditating by putting it in mind in order to concentrate instead of thinking other things while meditation. This meditation I knew is just basic,, it is helpful in clearing mind, mind and spirit. It takes 30 - 50mins.

My husband and I have coauthored a few articles on breathing and meditation, and we always tell people to begin with the breath. One of the best methods is to follow the breath for a count of 8, four in and four out. You want to breathe in through the nostrils and exhale through the mouth. It seems to be the easiest way for students to start out and work their way into other types of meditation. Some meditation can be shamanic in nature, and others focus on clearing the mind. Perhaps "religious" is often associated with it because typically when people here meditation they automatically think Buddhist monk. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I have been meditating for several years, and I have never seen it as something that is spiritual. It may be for some, but has never been for me.

Meditation is a method of relaxation and not at all religious, however, there are religions that use meditation to facilitate the journey towards higher enlightenment. I personally like to use meditation to relax and also after each meditation session you will feel increased concentration, so yes, meditation helps a lot.

Meditation is an act of relaxation and balancing the physical with the mental/emotional and sometimes spiritual. It is a technique that has been used amongst many cultures, religions too, and people from all walks of life.
