Well I am just curious, cause my sister in law to be got used to used her maiden name. Her reason is she got known by using her maiden name and did achieved her goals by herself before she got married. Would you use you husbands surname when you get married? Have a nice day to all of you!

In the Canadian province where I live, I can't take my fiance's surname. I can either keep my maiden name, or hyphenate my name, keep my maiden name and take his as well. But the thing is my surname is already hyphenated. My parents chose to give my sister and me both of their surnames. So, it would get complicated, if I chose to take his surname and such. If my surname wasn't already hyphenated, then I might consider hyphenating it, and taking on my fiance's surname as well.

I don't know, if it's just in the province I live in, but I don't think it is, because a friend of mine, who lives in another province, faced the same problem, when she married her husband, last summer. However, she did chose to hyphenate her name. But I think that it depends on the person. Some people prefer to keep their maiden name as it is, like my mom, and others prefer to hyphenate it, like my friend, when they can't take their husbands' surname.

I am newly married. I wanted to keep my name as it is because I am well known in that name, but my husband wants me to use his surname. So, I am in a confusion. He is even ready than I can use a mix of my surname and his surname together, but I don't agree with that. I would like like to have my name is as it is or if it doesn't work with his surname.

Hi daliaj, Same reason with my sister in law, for her she got known by her maiden name. At first I was asking my fiancee why like that, but by now I do understand why. She's very popular and got know by her maiden name, so people will not be having a hard time anymore. Have a nice day to you!

I am not against women who will use their maiden name during marriage. But for me, I want to use my hubby's surname when I'll be married..or I can also used my family name-his lastname..Lots of married women settle for this nowadays..

No, I don't change my surname after I got married. I don't like the concept behind the change of the surname, I think the consideration is different from our nationality. I don't think it is bad to use one's husband surname in other country, but I don't fancy it in my country.

If ever I get married, I will use my future husband's surname. My sister-in-law is separated from my brother for 5 years now and she was using her maiden name ever since. Using the maiden name doesn't really affect someone's achievement. Its the person itself who's making efforts to achieve her dreams and not her maiden name.

Hi sophie_dfuss, it took me time understanding why her sister is using her maiden name. Maybe your right there! She wanted her own identity maybe! But I still hope my fiancee will use my surname. Have a nice day to you!

everytime I get married I always take my husbands surname. I do this because it reminds me of my new life. I've been married and divorced twice so I have 3 surnames. My last marriage my I.D. had my maiden name and my marriage name on it. I thought I liked the idea at first but now I know that when I remarry someday I won't do that again. I'll just use my new husbands surname on the I.D. card.

Yes why not? I wouldn't think otherwise of using his surname unless it bring a lot of ridicule to the family.

Hi, n30wing! Yes, since I have been married for 7 years I have carried my husband's surname. I have never used an hyphen for my maiden name and marriage name. I never thought to do so.

Of course I will used it. Our law says that when a woman got married, she should take her husband's name, there are some cases that women included their maiden names in it and that is permitted by law, examples: Mirriam Defensor-Santiago, Leticia Ramos-Shahani. I will used my husband's name if ever I got married and won't include my maiden name because that's too long for me to write anymore. I had been using my surname for the past 35 years so it is quite boring.
