i have always had the nicest mailman, does a good job, friendly, etc. i always give my neighbor the local paper that comes twice a week. this morning i walked down to put a letter in the box for the mailman to pick up. he's always real good to do that to even if u don't have any mail. i took the newspaper & put it in my neighbor's mailbox. she was already gone to work. since i have trouble walking sometime i thought it would be easier on me to do that. i have done it before but guess not before the mail had run. he took the paper out of the box & threw it on the ground. i thought that was real tacky of him. what do y'all think? is there some rule he can't put mail in the box if there is already something in it? maybe he got up on the wrong side of the bed this mourning. whatcha' think?

hello antiquelady shame on your mailman for doing that! and i have had days where that i haven't felt good as well and didn't check my mail for a day or two and seems to me like they have always put something in the mailbox when that i would already have mail in it. and what that the mailman did by throwing the newspaper on the ground like that, isn't that called littering? lol right? maybe you had a substitute mailman today. lol take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

It depends on how much mail there is. The mail box is for mail not for the newspaper. I would have just put it on her steps or wait until she came home and then brought the newspaper over to her. But here the mailman will just slip the letters in because there is usually a newspaper or two in the mailbox. And if your neighbor already had a part underneath for newspapers, you could have put it there. I guess things are a bit different in the States. They must have rules that mailboxes are for mail only.

first of all let me say that we have some smart people in the states. we do know what a mailbox is for, we know that if there is a place to put newspapers under the box that u put them there. the reason i put the paper in the mailbox was because i was trying to save myself some steps, i don't walk real well due to some medical conditions. things are alot different here i'm sure. sure am glad i'm here, god bless the u.s.a.

Legally, only stamped mail can go in your mailbox. It was rather rude though.

I think that it was unkind but if this behaviour is different from how he usually acts then probably something had upset him.

Although it was not supposed to be put in the mailbox, I do think he could have found a better way to dispose of the paper.

If it in your neibours box then it belongs to your neibour and the mail man should not throw away anything in there.Have a little word with your mail man and suggest he was out of order and ask him to leave it in there in future please.good luckxxx

Yes, there is a US Postal Service rule against putting anything in the mailbox that does not have postage on it. I worked for the Postal Service for over 30 years and very often we would call people up who had put their fliers into people's mail boxes. Please do not blame your carrier for this matter. It might have been your mail carrier's supervisor who pulled the newspaper out of your neighbor's mail box. Very often they follow their carriers around and check up on them.

Well, since you said that he is friendly I would say that he got up on the wrong side of the bed. Maybe he was having a off day. I think it was tacky what he did with the paper. I don't think there is anything that says that he can't put the mail in the box if there is already something in there. Just chuck it up to him being in a bad mood.

Hi. ANTIQUELADY. Even if it was the wrong item to put in the mailbox, the mail carrier should not have thrown it down on the ground. That was very rude and tacky! I would report this mail carrier in an instant!

Hahaa - it sounds as if the mailman wasn't feeling his best! Maybe his wife burnt his bacon or something. You're lucky your mailman picks up letters, too - they don't do that in Australia, we have to take them to the post office or mailbox ourselves.

Hi ANTIQUELADY I think he was a bit out of order but then how would he have go the mail in the letterbox otherwise? I guess he could have put it back after he had posted the mail! At least in the States your mailman takes your mail from your mailbox and mails it for you in the UK we have to take it to the mailboxes ourselves!!

I'm not sure if there is a rule or law or something, but it seems to me that a mailbox like that is your property. I would understand if it was full and he couldn't make his delivery fit, but he could have been much more courteous about his problem. A note would have worked well. I kind of miss the fact that mailmen don't have to go to the individual houses or boxes all the time anymore. Our neighborhood has the bix metal shared boxes that 20 houses use. I can't say I've ever even seen our mailman.

Hello antiquelady! Personally, we don't have a mailbox at home. I watched the movie "Air Bud" and that I noticed that the newspaper man just throw all the newspaper on the ground so I guess that's what the mailman did especially maybe there are no enough space for the mails.
