Hi Vingyan,
This is also my husband's advice to me. Watch more cantonese movies and for sure I can picked up some words from there.
Actually I don't know how to speak Mandarin when I first go overseas for study. I watched alot of Singapore dramas and mingles with Singaporean. One day, one of my friend suggested I try to speak up in Mandarin. At first, I feel so shy as my mandarin is piece by piece, could not make up a proper sentences.
With my friends encouragement, at last I can speak simple Mandarin now. This is one of the language for me to communicate with my in-laws.Or else, I will be like a cat and dog staying with my in-laws(communication break down).

Hi Shia,
Good to know that you already know so many languages. Good luck for your endeavors. I believe Japanese is bit tough to grasp. Good luck again dear friend.

Wow - you are certainly very intelligent. I learned French at school and I know some Spanish - very little. Well done!

HI, It is great to know that you know both, I find that there are very few who know both ie. French as well as Spanish. Can you tell me which one you find better out of French and Spanish? I love this language; French. I love the way you need to pronounce with a strignent implication of your nasal sound. Which one do you like?

French was my second language at school but I am so rusty. Went ot Paris about 8 years ago and with the help of a dictionary just barely got through. My Spanish is worse. I want to learn Spanish as it is the second language in the Caribbean. My favourite would be Franch but maybe that is because I know more French than Spanish!lol

:-)) I personally belive that French scores a bit atleast over Spanish. No Offence. Merci beacoup. Any idea how German fares in the race, the length of thier spellings is horrifying, God knows how to pronounce. Lol.
Enjoy the weekend.

I love languages and I always enjoy to learn a new language. My mother tongue is Danish and in school I have studied English, German, French, Italian and some Japanese. I have lived in Poland and Estonia in the past, so I understand a bit of both langauges, but I am not able to speak Polish or Estonian. Last year I started studying Russian. I don't take classes, I just study by myself. I have borrowed some books at the library and I also use the internet a lot. In the future I would like to study Chinese and Greek.

Yes, the problem about books is that it is hard to know the pronounciation of the words. That is one of reasons why I like to combine the books with the information that I find on the internet. I have found a very good site where I can see the words/the pictures and listen to the pronounciation at the same time. I use that site to study Russian by myself.

Ancient Greek or modern Greek? I speak English, Spanish, Classical Latin, Esperanto, and Ancient Greek. I'm studying Chinese right now, hopefully I will be able to speak it passably well soon. I think most people learn better studying by themselves than in classes; it's nice to see that I am not the only one who does that. Good luck with your studies!

Tamil, and Japaneese have an altogether different forms of writing and to cipher them both would be a task indeed. Can you read Japaneese? Could you please let me know the dialect that you speak in Malaysia, I would be too obliged with the information.
Thank you so much for the response, enjoy the weekend.
