This is a question I have been pondering for years now. We have
it has been said the very best health care system in the world.
More money is spent on research then any five countries combined
yet here are with the highest mortality rate, the highest cancer
rate and the US leads in a host of other diseases so with that being
said I ask again what's really going on?

My opinion is the cause of Americans being so sick, as well as obese, is all the fast food restaurants. They are making a killing off of us because we are busy and it's just easier to grab a quick sandwich and fries. If we would just grab the salad instead we'd be doing a lot better.

i didn't know we were. there are countries worst off than america, but i do think that widespread diseases are producing everyday so its difficult even wth research to maintain or contoll the whole spectrum.

I agree with many others who say it's because of the food available. But I think there's more to it. America is rich, even the poorest is rich by some standards. Not only is there a vast array of unhealthy food available at low prices, we are not active, we're afraid of the sunshine, our air is polluted with fumes and metals instead of fresh, we stay in temperature controlled homes and offices and stores all day long. Our bodies don't have anything natural to challenge them.
The real challenges are beyond our bodies' ability to cope. Herbicides and pesticides in our food, water and air, prescriptions medicines with dangerous side effects, toxins emitted by our furniture and homes... how can we expect to be healthy?

I think a lot of it has to do with our lifestyles. Some people will blame obesity, but there are tons of skinny people out there who have just as unhealthy lifestyles as those who show it on the outside. Most of us eat foods we shouldn't, and lots of them. Most of us don't exercise like we should. Most of us don't even drink enough water!

As a Canadian who Lives in Texas 5 months of the year, I think you should do your research before Posting.
Nobody says America has the best Health care in the world! -From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia-
Universal health care is health care coverage that is extended to all eligible residents of a governmental region and often covers medical, dental, and mental health care. These programs vary in their structure and funding mechanisms. Typically, most costs are met via a single-payer health care system or national health insurance, or else by compulsory regulated pluralist insurance (public, private or mutual) meeting certain regulated standards.
Universal health care is implemented in all but one of the wealthy, industrialized countries, with the exception being the United States. It is also provided in many developing countries and is the trend worldwide.~
The USA is a Notable exception, even among developing Nations.
( The money spent on Health Care in the US is sucked up by the Insurance Companies and the MNO's.)

The problems lies in the food the people eat everyday.
To be honest the foods of today are ninety percent processed.
Mixed with preservatives and other chemical ingredients that
contribute to a lot of diseases. If you look back in the past
thousand years when most of the foods were organically cultivated,
people were healthier and live longer. That's the biggest difference.
What we eat define us.
