Hello everyone...
Well in my country is hot season is coming on and day by day it is getting more and more hot. And with this the number of mosquitoes disturbing us are also increasing on and on. And so I have taken out the mosquito net from my cupboard and set it over my bed. This gives good protection while sleeping. But when just sitting in the room, what to do? In my case sometimes, I use mosquito coils too. Yes this prevents me from mosquito but the mosquito coils are very much irritating for me and I don't really like them...Also we have one or two mosquito protection liquid, that activates with electric power...But we don't have that for all the rooms...
What about you?

Hi nzalheart
Mosquitoes are great nuisance.First thing is you can not sleep.Second thing is you might get some health problems.
So I take lot of care to escape from mosquitoes bite..
Though in the market so many things like mosquito mat, mosquito coil, mosquito cream, mosquito liquid
are available, they are irritating to use because of chemicals.
The age old mosquito net is the best but it is good only when we are sleeping.
So what Works best for me is the Netlon wire mesh that is fixed in all windows and
ventilators.Because of this no mosquitoes get inside the house. And to kill few mosquitoes that enter through doors,I use mosquito bat.
Happy mylotting

Hello muru1950!
Yes, there is no doubt that mosquitoes are a great nuisance to us. But my friends and every get surprised when I say to them, I don't kill the mosquito that even bites me, I just scare it away. Its because I have forbidden myself from taking the life of any creatures intentionally. Ok leave it...
yes the products are very much irritating. And I haven't fixed the wire as you have said. Yes that may be a very good idea...Thanks for the response...
Happy mylotting...

Hi nzalheart, very unlike the situation in your country, it’s still lucky that the people in your place facing the mosquito problem only during the hot summer season. I wonder whether there is any mosquito during the other colder seasons.
Here in my place, the weather here is hot year in and year out. We are disturbed by the disgusting little mosquitoes the whole year round. I dislike mosquito coil or mosquito spray, for I’m allergic to the smell of these repellent incense. Sleeping in the mosquito net is uncomfortable and uneasy as well.
We prefer to spend extra money to fix all the windows and both the front and back doors with aluminum gauzes and hope this would be once for all. Yeah, nowadays we don’t have bother much about the nasty blood suckers Of course we have to make sure that the doors have to close nicely after going in and out.
Happy posting.

Hi nzalheart, I am glad that you are willing to tell me that there are mosquitoes found for 3 to 4 months only in your country yearly. Yeah, you are really in a quandary, whether to close the window or to let the mosquitoes keeping on attacking the whole night.
You are most welcome and thanks for enlightening ...

Hello Ikbooi!
Yes we are lucky that the we see mosquitoes only seasonally. We get this problem about three to fours months a year. I can't let my windows closed in this summer season. It will make my room hot and that makes me difficult while sleeping....
Yes I agree with you, many anti-mosquito products are irritating and allergic. I hate mosquito coils and its smell, I can't resist. It makes me more irritated than the mosquito lol....
Thanks for such a nice response...

Ikbooi, I see that you are staying in Malaysia.
My friends told me that some families plant lemon grass to get rid of mosquitoes. How effective is it? How do you use the lemon grass?
The lemon grass does have a nice smell and very refreshing too.

Well me I use the mosquito bat! :) haha
Me and my mom were shopping one day and we found this new gadget called the electric mosquito bat :) Have you heard of it? It looks like a badminton racket and when a mosquito goes near that gadget it will be electrocuted haha! :) plus it's rechargeable and fun to use.. :) I love to kill mosquitoes that way :)

Oh okay.. Maybe mosquito bat is not recommended for you because you have to manually kill the mosquitoes using this gadget. But I remember another electronic gadget which also kills mosquitoes but in a unique way. Sorry I can't remember the name but when you plug it into the socket it will create noise that is only understandable for mosquitoes. Once they hear it they will automatically die. I forgot the brand name but we use it before ;)

To use that instrument to kill the mosquito is also killing them manually hehe...I said I consider killing the creatures as the greatest sin of all.

Hello cecille, well I haven't heard that some of thing really. Do you have to manually search for mosquitoes for that, of do you keep it at a place, and the silly little plus innocent mosquitoes will get trapped. Don't get me wrong, but me myself, is always strongly against killing any creature than may be mosquito too. It's not possible for me be so kind to let them suck by blood too, that's why I have the mosquito net user hehe...

I've seen on tv that you should avoid wearing blue clothing since it will attract mosquitoes all the more. You could also try using mosquito repellant lotion. But the most effective way is to keep your surrounding clean. Remove any stagnant water because in this way they won't have a place to reproduce.

Blue color attracts mosquito...hmm...Never known about this fact. I learnt another knew interesting thing. Thanks....
And about the mosquitoes, we get them in summer season only, for about two to three months. And we can't really think about keeping the whole surrounding clean with lot of people densely packed urbanization here....

Have your fan turned on when you are sitting alone. That would be the best prevention from those annoying insects. I use fan for this purpose but I get a big problem in winter time. I use a think blanket everytime so that I can avoid them biting my precious blood!
After we work hard to get those circulating in our body, how can we donate it to them for free!

Hi sanuanu, it would be nicer and safer as well, if we could put another fan on the floor blowing to the direction of our legs. Mosquitoes love gloomy place. but this suitable for summer days only, or at my place where the weather is scorching hot.
Anyway I agree with you to use the blanket to keep the blood suckers away from attacking, and this also could keep your body warm during the cold winter days

Hi angel heart,
It is indeed a summer time and the worst season for mosquito is cming just after summer and that is rainy season my friend. It is sad that you don't have fans in every room but what is a "FAT" which is availalbe in above room?

Hello sanuanu!!!
Well the season here is just getting into hotter season from cold season. Also with this, the occurrence of mosquito here is seasonal. We can't see them in winter season. Now it is April. It gives trouble here for about three to four months and they are away for until another year...
I don't have fan in my room. Yes in above room, We used to stay on fat to prevent from hotness + mosquito. But sleeping with fan can cause headache. I have felt this. But it is really cool to stay with fan during summer season...

Yup, mosquitoes could be annoying,so when we built our house almost 19 years ago, we had it screened all over...meaning to say, all the doors and windows have screens on them, and when they get destroyed, we just replace them from time to time, so we don't have problems with mosquitoes inside the house. There's also no need of mosquito nets, too. We also just spray once a month, so that's how we solved the problem...

Once i used the anti mosquito lotion, but after i heard someone that the lotion was dangerous i quit to using it. So now I am using Racket electric to prevent mosquito bother my family, maybe it took more effort to use it, because you have to chase and slam it to them(mosquito) and push the electric button to get work and the mosquito will suffer from electric shock.

For us by just turning on the electric fan drives mosquitos away. Thou just few mosquitos around as our doors and windows were fully screened, but because of the screen too much heat around that maybe even mosquitos won't survive (lol).

Well, Its a creative thread.
I would like to give my comment on it. When mosquitoes are there in your home. You start scolding them by using worst words. Then they will feel bad about you and never come to your home.
Idea Number two:- Speak loud in your house that some one is gonna put a bomb in your home (make sure that the mosquitoes here this. Then they will never come back).
Jus kidding..
Use coils and mosquito tablets. They will save you.
Do not make any stagnant water around your place. This is the first cause of mosquito generation.

I think that I have tried everything, coils, sprays, etc. It hasn't even rained here in months but still there are mosquitoes and nothing seems to stop them. Every nite before I go to bed I close up my bedroom, spray the room and leave it for about a half an hour. Then I come in turn on the fans and without fail there is always one buzzing around me. I hate the darn things!

Better have you doors and windows screened. it's expensive but it will prevent the entry of mosquito inside. and it's really effective. I live in a house surrounded with plants with so many mosquitos too but we do have this screen doors. so mosquito is not a problem. You can use plant repelant too. you can place it inside the house.

Hello irene! its nice idea. But won't it block the cool air coming in and make the room hot in this hot season....
Any way thanks for the suggestion and keep mylotting...

My mom gets this lotion, I think it is cactus juice lotion or something like that, and we put that on. It is both a sunscreen and bug repellent. I really like the smell of it, and it leaves our skin soft and smooth, too. That works most of the time, but if the bugs are really bad (like in the woods), then we have to use spray, too.

We use a product called OFF it works better than anything else I have ever tried. It comes in spray form. You have close your eyes and hold your breath while someone else sprays it on you all over you body except your face, then you just kind of spray a little on your hands and pat your face a bit, then wash you hands because you don't want to injest it, but it works really well.

If you can afford to, have the windows and doors screened. Clean house thoroughly and apply mosquito repellent (DEET-free ones are best, esp if you have kids). Mix a few drops of citronella essential oil with a bucket of water and use this to mop the floor or wipe surfaces. Mosquito coils bother me because of my asthma, but there are candles (citronella ones included) that have essential oils in them that are natural bug repellents.

apply ointment that does not give any side effect after application or consult doctor for some medication for prevention of disease.

Here in the Philippines we have a lots of mosquito I don't worry to much because they are not a carrier of dengue or malaria. Mosquito coil is not advisable if you have asthma. I think using mosquito net soak in insecticides is much better like what are using in Africa. I spray insecticides and clean every corner of our house to eliminate this problem. Dengue during the rainy season is very common here so cleanliness is the best prevention to fight these mosquitoes. Applying insect repellant or lotion to your skin are very helpful.

I usually just ignore them as I find that if I actively try to get rid of them they eat me more. Something to do with sweat or pheromones I believe. However what my family uses is a spray of some sort and citronella candles.
