I, too, have noticed that many Indians speak very good English. I think it must be because they have worked hard to attract international businesses and there are a lot of English speakers in their country. I agree it is beautiful there, I recently did some articles on India and I was surprised how lovely it is. But it's too hot for me, I don't care for tropical climates.

Hi there, thanks for the compliment to my country. Yes first thing is that in India the official language is English and as the 1967 adopted as the national language Hindi is not popular in the southern part of the country and people are forced to use English as medium of communication as every single state has its own language. And the most important part is that English is taught quite methodically. Ok you can not stand the heat, do come during winter you would not have any problem.

we indians use British english. lots of ppl think that v are using US english bcoz we use it in our IT sector. i mean any software is of US based english. Trust me, we use British english. One more thing is that we have changed pronunciation of some words. But the base is British. There are a lot of minor things that differentiate British from American English. The most obvious is accent, and the Indians that I've heard don't have a British or American accent; Their accent is something very distinctive that doesn't sound like either the American or British. Other than that there are only little differences of vocabulary or spelling. source:http://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081116022633AAywIoV

Hindi is India's main language but after that, English has taken over as the second language here. In fact, there are a lot of people who are better in English than in Hindi. I do not think we should give much credit to the Britishers who ruled here for it. It is our own desire to learn and succeed at the world stage that has driven us to learn the language.

Here in the Philippines many are studying English like Koreans because it much cheaper here to study English than the US or England. I know that India has so many call centers I agree that that they have so many English speaker like in this site. As a Filipino we are also competitive in speaking English and we can imitate the American accent immediately right now there so many call centers here employing Filipinos.

HELLO Friend thanks for such compliments. I am from India. Obviously I feel proud. No doubt in the early stage India was ruled by British Colonization . As a result of which we have adopted the british english which is I think pure english. Moreover pronunciation plays a great factor while delivering the words. Indians are correctly pronouncing the sentence . Due to this usage of correct english is being done by Indian. In India though english is second language but there are no. of english medium school where maximum number of childrens are studying as english is international language and all over the world widely accepted. pkc3000

Hi, you are most welcome to the land of diversity in unity or to put other way round unity in diversity. You will enjoy every bit that this vast country possess. So far Indian English, what you have said right to some extent that India was under the British regime and the influence is still there. That the English of this land is good for we learn this Language most methodically. Grammar is given the utmost priority and once one is correct in the syntax there is no other problems as such.

I am an Indian. When u come to india, U should experience that in every states the language varies. In every state 69 % of peoples are having good knowledge of English and their vocabulary are very sharp in english. But in india the point of interest about Literature is Sanskrit. The Sanskrit is the language of Gods. Many languages take born through Sanskrit. Hence Sanskrit is considered as mother of languages. The sanskrit word AUM or OM which belongs to no other language except sanskrit has maximum universal vibration when said heartly at the time of meditation.

While there english may be good I think they should learn the context of the language as well. There are many english speakers in india simply because of outsorcing of many companies to that country. This is by no means meant to be offensive it is just very frustrating having to deal with support from compamnies that have been outsourced and for someone not to understand what I'm saying.

Yes we are thankful for realizing our dreams. Your English should improve by reading and responding here. I know it is not the same as spoken English. Would it be fun to already be fluent and to go see the beautiful country of India?

Hi fwangaa, when we analyse the reason for this , we can see that we had to learn English for more than one reason. First of all the British influence and spread of English education. Then in a vast country like ours we have many states and each of these states has its own language and sometimes more than one language. Like take the example of my state Karnataka- here we have 4 official languages. Now what can person do? it is impossible to learn so many languages and communicate with people all over the country, so we use English as a link language. It is one language spoken by all, at least the educated people are all able to speak English...

Well actually its like this. We indians ve a lot to take to live a normal life wit basic needs here.. N the struggle to live better makes us work harder.. Anyone who works hard to learn something is good at it. Its not tat all of us are good at it. Maybe u ve seen the cream of the lot. But yet, the education n dedication here is the best in the world n we are proud of it. U don ve to come al the way here jus for betr english.. U may not learn it here too tat perfectly if u aren tat dedicated n hard working .. No language needs a good teacher, a good learner wit a curious n attentive mind is all it needs.. Do come to visit india n enjoy the best part of the world thou.. Always welcoming here.. Tak care..
