Is it a racist symbol? A hate symbol? A symbol of Southerners' heritage/history?

It is definitely not a hate symbol. I am from New York and I believe I can speak on behalf of the people who live in my area that the confederate flag is more a symbol of ignorance. When we see a confederate flag we laugh and immediately brand the holder as a redneck.

to me the rebel flag is a sign of our heritage. to me is has nothing to do w/racism because i am not a racist person but i'm from tennessee & proud of it. i think it's ridiculous they have made such a big deal of it having to w/racism. it may to some people but not to me.

Well because of the groups that have picked it up as their symbol it's all of the above.

I have to say that The Confederate Flag is the symbole of The south and our heritage. I think that it is the symbol that may very well show the south rising again. It's about fighting for what we believe is right and not backing down!

It is my heritage. I am by no means in a hate group or a hater of people. That flag just symbolizes my family's history. There is always a big stink about that flag but that's just because there have been so many people use it out of reference.

I believe that tis a part of southern heritage and history, and that the conderate flag, just like the swatstica was taken from druid/pagan lore (I forget which one exactly), became a symbol associated to mean other things than it was originally intended.
