How many families like split pea and ham soup??? So many gage at the thought. I know I use to. I made it earlier this week and wow it is good. As usual I didnt not follow a recipe and it was great. My husband and children never had it before. Kids being 1 and 2. They ate it all. My husband ate 3 bowls of it at one sitting. It shocked me because he doesnt eat that much my children had to 2 helpings each. I think I will start making it more oftern. Does your family like split pea soup? Have you ever had it?

I don't that I've heard of it though it does sound a bit familiar. I haven't had it but it doesn't sound as if it would be that bad at all. Is it more of a chowder or is it a soup? I appreciate the response you made to me on my veggie discussion, just thought I'd stop by and return the favor!

It honestly can go either way. It can be a chowder or a soup. It really depends on your taste. I make it both ways just depends on the mood i am in.

I love split pea and ham soup. It's so easy to make, nice and hearty, filling, and cheap. All it takes is a bag of split peas, and a big ham bone, or whatever leftover ham you have, or even some smoked pork hocks. I especially like it when it starts with sweating some celery and onions, and ends with bacon crumbled over the top.
It's too bad I can't enjoy it anymore - beans and dried peas are off limits for me now. :(

I am sorry to hear you cant have the soup anymore. I love the fact it is cheap. I am on WIC for my boys and I get dried peas and beans on there and everyone I know who is on it will give me thiers because they wont eat them but I use them for all kinds of things and if my toddlers and husband will eat it you bet im going to make it.
