Is making clothes cheaper than buying them?

If I decide to start making my own clothes, will it be cheaper than going out and buying clothes?
Or will it at least be about the same price?
I would most likely get fabric, etc, from Hobby Lobby.
I'm not looking to make extravagant clothes either, simple is fine for me.
(Just for the record, I'm not interested in making clothes JUST so that it will be cheaper, but I would still like to know.)

when my children were young i made almost all of their clothes, and i thought that it was a lot cheaper and they had a lot of pretty dresses (at least the girls did) but it has been years since i did so i do not know the prices of material anymore. I have been buying most of the stuff that i wear now at second hand shops, you can find nice things for a fraction of the cost of new things.

Years ago it was cheaper to make clothes instead of buying them. But now, with the big chains that sell clothes for little money and make sales at the end of a season, I don´t think it´s worth the trouble of sewing except if you like to do it or you have a difficult body that won´t fit into usual sizes.

I think it's on average the same but it depends on a lot on the country. A thing that shops will never sell is the design YOU like. Most of the people make clothes because they want their own design and they think that available clothes are crappy.
