Poor kids, The father was driving and the cell phone rang,Wehn he went to asnwer the phone he lost control of the car and it landed in a rain swollen ditch. The kids who dies were ages 1-3,4-6 and 7,and there was a 10 year old who escaped. The car was not reported as a crash, rescue workers didnt even find them from what I understand till 2 and half hours AFTER the car had crashed. It was found under nine feet of water. The father,2 adults and the 10 year old girl escaped.. ~Do you answer your cell phone when driving??.. ~If you could not get your kids out of a situation like that, would you leave them behind and escape,or would you want to stay inside the car and die with them?? Just wondering.. thanks

I have two children of my own and my heart bleeds for this family. I cannot even begin to imagion what it must feel like to loose your children, I can bet that the father is blaming himself. Truthfully I can't help but feel a little angry about it. Any adult knows the dangers of being distracted while you are driving and I really can't imagion why anyone would take the risk. I would never answer the phone while driving. I think that it is just asking for trouble, just look at what happened to this poor guy. I know that a lot of car accidents are caused by people being careless and talking on a cell phone, that is why where I live, there is a very big fine givin to anyone caught talking on a phone while driving. If you think that the call is that important, wait until you can pull over to talk safely, that would be my advice. I think that this situation just goes to prove that this kind of thing is common occurance and that things need to change. I think that it is great that you are posting this discussion and I can only hope that this will raise the kind of awarness that we need. Keep up the good work and happy mylotting.

I ALWAYS pull over to the shoulder of the road when I am talking on my cell phone. My kids are grown and it is usually only me in the car but I do not want to wreck hurt or kill myself or hurt/kill other people. In the US they are trying to pass a National law that you cannot talk on your cell phone while driving. They already have some states that have laws against teenagers driving and talking on the phone. Other states have it against the law for anyone to talk on the cell phone while driving unless it is a hands free phone. However like I said the USA is trying to pass a National law of forbiding people to talk on the cell phone at all no matter the age and no matter if it is a hands free system. I agree with them, that even if it is a hand free phone, you are still distracted from what you are doing, especailly if you are arguing with someone, and this causes a higher risk of wrecks. They are doing a study at some major college (I will have to find my magazine article to get them name) and so far there study consist of People talking on Cell Phone, People listening to and messing with their stereo, and People talking to other people in theie car (passangers), and so far the result have shown that talking on a cell phone seems to impair ones driving ability, or ones focus on driving then any of the others one. I cannot wait to see the final findings of this study. I will find who it doing this study and post on here later today, I have lots of magazines to go through...lol

Haha well thank you. That would be good to know what magazine it is in. then I could find the article online and post it hear for everyone to see.. It my state wich is nc. We already have the law that you have to have a hands set if you talk on the phone while driving... I think it is veary smart to pass a law that NO ONE no matter what cannot be talking on ANYTHING while there are driving..

I will send the information to as soon as I find the article. Like I said I have lots of magazines, the only thing that I ever won in my entire life is a lifetime subscription to 12 magazines of my choice that I get each month, bi-weekly, and weekly depending on how often the magazines that I choose get published....lol...I couldn't win like a million dollars...heck I would be happy with $50,000.00...lol

i could not understand why people do that. i think peole are aware of the risk involve in using the cellphone. but i don't know why they think that they good enough to do two different things at the same time. driving involves two hands on the steering wheel and we should have one hand occupied with other things when not needed. cause we can't tell when we will be needing to use the other hand also. i think that people generally are just confident of themselves on escaping and avoiding this kind of accident but mostly failed in this one. i will never dare text or call or use the cellphone while driving. as we know the danger with doing it. but still lots of people are still doing though they have heard or seen so many accidents because of this one.

Yup. I dont understand either people are so careless to the things that they KNOW are dangerous and can cause the life of someone else. This guy was drunk so of course he made poor decisions. and because of he will spend the rest of his life in prison and thats ganna be quite a long time because this guy was only like 32..

Well i feel sorry for the kids and the whole family. The thing is that you should never answer phone while driving and even if you do just tell the person to call him after sometime . the driver has one more option , if the talk is very important he can stop the car by the side of the road and then talk. Another bad habit is texting while driving which is even more dangerous than drunk driving. I hope people realise that this habit should be stopped and that they should be more responsible because they might not be the only ones being affected by the accident.

Hi, MikesWifey! This is a very sad story. The father should never have been on the cell phone in the first place! Is he aware that they have a device that allows you to be hands free? Or he could have waited to talk, once he pulled over on the side of the road. I can see that they were riding in a big truck, it must be big like a Suburban, to fit that many people in that car. And you mean to tell me that the father, and two adults and the 10 year old girl all escaped and none of them tried to go back for the rest of the kids..? This is very sad.. When will people understand, that talking on a cell phone can cause you to lose your life and the lives of others? I was in the hospital's parking lot last week. And I was just sitting in the car, observing people that were coming in and leaving out of the parking lot. I noticed that just about all of those people that were driving was on their cell phone. I say to myself that, that is exactly how someone can get killed or injured, by the cell phone.. If I was driving, I will not be on my cell phone at all. It will be turned off, until I park the car. I feel bad for the little ones. Their precious lives were lost all because of an careless act that their father pulled. If these were all of his kids, then that is really pitiful. My heart goes out to the babies..

Answering a phone call is a recipe for disaster and that is why new legislation is coming to prevent the use. Driving is a full time job and all aspects of the road, including other drivers, must constantly be monitored in order to prevent accident of such horrendous nature from occurring. It only takes a split second for life to be taken away.

It's a pity! I think the father did not think that thing would happen. But the father should not get off the situation without his younger children. If i was the father i think i would protect my children an first.
