My daughter wanted a handphone for her birthday present. Most of her classmates have a handphone. She thought having a handphone is lots of fun,she can play games and call her friends. I think she don't need a handphone at this age.

Hi, janiceines! This would be a lovely gift for her to have. But, at her age, I, as a parent disagree. At the age of 8 is too young to have a handphone/cellphone. Maybe you can get her something that acts like a cellphone but is not an actual cell phone. I know that she may not so pleased with this. But, having a cellphone would not be a good idea at her age. I know at this age, it is quite normal to desire things just like her peers. But having a cell phone can be an extra bill to be paying for a parent. That is money that can be saved or spent on buying something that will be useful for her age.

I agree with you. 8 years old is too young to own a cell phone. If it is just for the fun and games, there are other gifts which could be more appropriate. Cell phones are not being encouraged to be on long use because of the radiation, what's more she is just a kid. Since her purpose is not for the need of contact, it is better the avoid giving her this birthday gift.

That's depend, I think if there is really a need I don't see why can't she. But if its just because her friends and classmates have one then I don't think she need it at this moment.

That is too young, I agree completely. I got my first phone at the age of 16 so that is something happened to my car I could call for help or so that I could tell my family where I was going. I thought it was wonderful. I have a niece who just got her first phone and she is 11. I still thought that was too young. A person needs to be mature enough to realize that phones are not supposed to be toys, they are supposed to be used for a reason - to call people. The games are just extras.

Yeah, I think she's way too young for a cell phone, mainly because she isn't old enough to understand the responsibilities that come along with having one.

We can find toy cell phones in the toy mart, to ease a little baby. When we bought the cell phone, we got from the shop assistant a model cell phone with exactly the same appearance, color, except the inner equipment. That should be good enough for a little child. The eight year old might not be satisfied with just a model. But for the harmful radiation accompanying the machine, adults have to control their desire to please their children.

yes you are right your daughter who is just of 8 years is not capable for a mobile at this age because your daughter is too small and there are many side effects having a mobile as it emits radiations that may cause side effects in your brain and for her she would start damaging her brain in this early age and she would become addicted to hand phone...its better not to buy her a phone instead buy her some sport item.
