I am somewhat raise in a family with some old superstitions, aside from Chinese norms and beliefs on age gaps between partners, one of the most famous beliefs that up to now many are still somewhat followed at is the belief that if the bride to be wear her wedding gown before their marriage, the wedding will not going to pursue? Many of those people closed to me including my sisters did not really believe in this beliefs but still afraid of the many what ifs. Who's bride do you know who would like test it anyway, huh! hehehe. So, not to regret, though it might create somewhat imperfections on the gown, many still prefer not to dare this beliefs. How about you? Do you know personally of someone who experience bad luck because of doing this? what is your opinion about this?

Hello sapphire!!! At first I am not a lady and I don't have to wear the wedding gown lol... I am from Nepal and like that there are also many many superstitions in Nepal. I have to say Nepali beliefs are full of superstitions.... Now as we don't have such belief as being told by you. But still if was in place of you, I would have said, I don't believe in that, but still I wouldn't dare to do it. I don't know any about someone experiencing bad luck with that, rather we don't have that superstition here. But there are many people here, who claim that some superstitions are very true. And start explaining there story. Non believers call them coincident and the believers can accept it....

nice to meet you nzalheart! though you are a man, you still consider responding here, well appreciated sir. It is nice to know that like my country yours are rich with superstitions and beliefs. Here, everything is really moving, changing so fast, and many beliefs are merely just a story now, but for those who have somehow a close encounter, be it because of the beliefs or just coincidence, like you said, they are still considering it, especially if it will not cause you something of great deal, the choice is why not, huh! Do you know in a way a superstitions close to you or unforgettable in way? Would you mind sharing it to us???

Hello again sapphire!!! I am really glad to meet you too. And about the superstitions that are close to me. Yes I have once story about me. This was about eight or nine years ago. That time I got a very big pimple inside the nose. Oh it was just too much paining. With it, my most part of my nose start to get swell. I was looking too funny that time. But this thing didn't go for few days, but it pained me even a lot. Then my mother took me to a old woman(People call her god women. Here in our society, there are some women scattered here and there who are known as god women. They not exactly the god, but considered as the incarnation of god but they dress up very usual like every other women...). She holded my wrist closed her eyes and meditated for a while and then she told me that the pain is because someone has ill will against you. Yes, we have this superstition about ill will. When you have wound and if it is accompanied by this ill will case, then it will pain a lot than just a normal wound. Well she said same was the case for me. So she did something, that I forget and asked my mother to do something. I exactly forgot, but I think what she had done was holding some pieces of beaten rice on her had and touched my forehead with it and threw them on the terrace...This is very religious...And I don't know, I have to say it is coincidence or the virtue of the woman, that my paining reduced too lot, and then I also went to the doctor, he took the mucus and water out of the pimple and he prescribed some medicine... And yes I had posted about some of the superstitions in Nepal in another thread started by our own mylot friend scheng1. Check out http://mylot.com/w/discussions/1981297.aspx?=2 Enjoy mylotting fren...

I live in a country with a similar belief: that future brides should not wear their wedding gowns before the wedding day itself because it's either the marriage will not happen or the couple will have marital problems in the future. As for me, I wore my wedding gown before the wedding because I had to know if it fits my body right. I can't risk wearing an ill-fitting gown on my big day. What I did was to fit my gown even before it was finished -- basically the form was done, but the beads and other embellishments weren't sewn in yet. Well, I've been married for almost a year now and so far, our relationship is doing well.

Actually I wasn't really worried about the superstition about fitting the gown before the wedding. I was more concerned of my elder folks knowing that I did wear my gown prior the big day. Hahaha! Seriously, my husband and I talked about it and we believe that it's more on how you work together that will define your marriage, and not superstition.

is that so? well, congratulations to you, maybe and i hope it is not really true to anyone. I am worried to wear ill-fitting gown too. But, were you, in a way, a bit worried right after fitting it?

I don't know if any of the family I know who has gotten married has let their groom see them in their dress before the wedding. My fiance and I are getting married, but I'm not wearing a dress. The wedding is themed though. I know it's a superstition though and really just an old wives tale!

There is so many perception or suprestition towards marriage in each country. But main thing is that if you are doing marriage then you need to more concentrate on your partner behaviour then any other thing.

I fit my wedding gown twice before the wedding and our wedding has been successful and we just celebrated our first year anniversary last Sunday. Well this belief has been around for more than a decade but if it will means of hurting anyone's feelings in your family then I would suggest to follow the elders.
