Our tv just died so we need to get one soon. Which should we get plasma or LCD and what should we be looking out for (as in what is the difference between brands sizes and all that)

Hey sad to hear about your t.v. but look at it as an opportunity to move on up to the wolrd of HD!!!! I used to work in the home entertainment dept. at circuit city. It is simple If you have a darker room and only watch t.v. during the evening go for plasma it has unrivaled black levels (how deep the blacks are) and the richest and widest color spectrum that a t.v. can produce. On the other hand if you have a bright room and primarily watch during the day or if you have a very brightly lit room go for the lcd. it will give you zero glare and be much brighter than a plasma in a bright room. Also if you play video games you will enjoy a lcd as well. Due to the fact plasmas can get whats called "burn in" or "image retention" video games can cause this to happen quite rapidly due to certain stationary parts of the screen when playing. For instance the tachometer on a racing game etc. So I hope that helps. And some brands to tick with are Sony and Samsung for lcds and Panasonic for plasmas. good luck!

Thanks for that it was very informative. The guy who was explaining to my husband wasnt clear at all (trying to push one tv on him) so he mentioned something about hz and all that but we will have to have a good look at all that because after all we are going to be spending over $1000

Far as plasma or LCD, I would go for Plasma tv just because im to the whole plasma deal. Far as size goes, well t hat depends on how well you can see and how far the tv is going to back from the viewing location u are going to set the tv. And make sure that its hdtv due to the change over.
