Now,some people say reading is useless, especially some boss, such as a butcher. As we know, thousands of college graduates are jobless, even though some of them have job,the salary is so low, this really makes us disappointed, since reading is useless, why there are still so many parents force their children to learn hard?
do you think this is a conflict phenomenoa?

Reading is never useless. Even if you only read joke books or fiction, you're still exercising your mind. When you watch TV or a movie, it's a passive act. When you read, you're using your mind. Maybe all you're getting out of it is enjoyment - and what's wrong with that? But I often learn a new word, learn something new about one of the characters, or hear of a new city or country where the story takes place, read about new customs - all sorts of things. And if you're reading news, history, or other subjects, you're educating yourself.
I feel like I have more freedom when I read. I can choose the book, magazine, or newspaper. When you watch TV or a movie, you're being told what to see and hear. Yes, you can make decisions on what program to watch, but there's much more choice in reading - even reading online!
As we get older, we need to keep our mind alert or we may end up with Alzheimer's. Reading is a great way to exercise your mind.

Reading is definitely not useless. Sometimes it is not fun to read when we do not like what we are reading but of course there are stuff we like and we can read about it. reading is a good past time and you get to learn something new each time. You can read for school and you can read newspapers for current events and also we can read for leisure. There are so many values for reading and the knowledge we gain from it.

Reading is a brain exercise. It exercises a person's memory, skills, vocabulary, and most importantly, his imagination. One of the best benefits I know about frequent/habitual reading is that it's a prevention from Alzheimer's Disease (somewhat like watching television after work to relax, but even better). Also it's really "brain exercise" - just like how 20 minutes of cardio everyday wouldn't make a person with a normal weight lose any pounds, but it exercises the heart and makes the person more healthy; in that same way, reading is important :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Reading is NOT useless in the least. Parents make their children read because reading stimulates the brain and forces it to grow and learn. It's not hard to learn either. I was reading by myself by the time I was five. (No full-length novels of course... but still. It wasn't hard.)
Think about it... since reading has been on the decline so has the education in America. Kids are getting stupider, not going to college, and being poor as a result. College students remain jobless or have jobs with a low salary because they do not have the best education or experience to get the jobs they want.

Of course not. I think reading is not only a good habit, but also giving you knowledge. If someone who doesn't like reading, I think he/she is very ignorant. I think education is still very important. The people who may be rich, but on the other hand they make the fortune by a chance. And their behaviors are shallow.

If reading is useless I guess I'm on the wrong site. Granted some of the pictures make me laugh but I come hear for the reading. If I just want to look at pictures I can go grab one of my kids books. I think reading is a very important skill to have. Maybe not essential because some people have been sucessfull without being able to read. However, nowadays with the way things are you almost have to be able to read to accomplish anything.

Reading is an integral aspect of Progress, for your country and yourself as well. Don't dwell with the negative things. Why not try reading inspirational stories, be updated and learned or upgrade your skills by reading.
I cannot stress enough the importance of reading, our civilization has gained prosperity because of reading.
Everyone should be an advocate of reading especially parents. They should encourage and not force their offspring. They should set as a role model for their child.

i do think that reading is essential in our lives.
we have to read to learn more. we have to read to use our brains too, if not, then you will forget or lose some mental abilities.
even people are jobless or what, reading increases the exploration and learnings. we should not stop learning.

Reading is an important part of study. In life, study and travel are things you cannot do without. They help to expand your knowledge, so that you are better prepared to be accepted for a career.
Reading is more than the assignments from the teachers. Leisure reading also contribute in developing a positive attitude and expanding scope of view, which could mean equally important for an earsier living.
