We come across so many stuffs on internet. We get to explore a whole new world, a whole new conjectures and theories. And most tend to believe whatever they read. It could be however a blogger's perspective, an individual thought or subjective interpretation and might not be proven!!

So, do you believe in all that you read on internet?

The first thing which comes to my mind is the various scam sites which we come across.
Then there are various groups and theories about the world coming to an end tomorrow,dayafter..., ufo's disguised as humans, everything that goes on being a conspiracy and so on.
My experiences with this have made to take things with some amount of sceptisicsm, especially if it is from a source which is unknown.
I tend to follow and believe more of what is written in the more well known news sites, blogs and such.
Also the thing with the internet is that it has become a medium of expression of the fantasies of some. And as creative or imaginative that people can get, one need to be able to verify such information before believing them.

Internet has opened a whole new world of reality and we are getting to realize and discover newer facts. However, the authenticity of all the facts are ambiguous. Even the reliable resources like Wikipedia could be highly infested with fakes. On one hand we enjoy the tag of 'writers' or 'contributors' or 'sources' and on the other we are shrouded with apprehension of which to select and which not to even with sufficient validations.

I have come across so many things, which always stirred my curiosity at first. To validate it i tend to read through and check other sources. Even then i must say sometimes i have been left in a quandry of "to believe or not". At the same time there is so much that i have learnt when it comes to general information about health and technology especially, which without the internet, i may have taken an extremely long time to learn. So as much as there is a lot of things which may be hard to accept and believe, it still continues to be my primary information bank. Validation by means of other sources and asking others is something which i do when i need to be certain on things.

Here, of course, I am talking about debatable issues and not general stuffs. We all know that obesity is bad for one and all and we must consume less fatty foodstuffs. But you would get innumerous data about how much and how to consume and in what portions! Again a myth of one site is a fact in other! Internet is also my primary source of knowledge but I careful about what to believe in and what not to.

No I never.I consider this as a very vital discussion which is really an eye opener. There is always a common belief that everything in print and net is true.I don't think so.The internet is full of crap than any other medium at present. For example there are thousand and one opinions about any ailment which can be disastrous if followed without proper medical guidance. One has to check and recheck the credibility before believing anything on the net. Thanks for the wonderful discussion Mimpi.

I have a heck of a problem looking for the right information on internet. Some info are totally different and you have no clue at all. Even authentic sites come up with varied opinions about health hazards and the DOs and DON'Ts. I think, internet is a great medium of learning but we have to be very wise to pick and choose the correct information.

Hi Mimpi,
I do not take all stuff that I come across in the Internet to be true. There are more fake things or fake facts which could lead an individual or a community to a dangerous move. Therefore I urge those who are more attached with Internet to accept things only after proper verification.

I agree with you Rajib. Internet gives access to all kind of people, with all kinds of brain and we must verify from authentic sources before accepting.
Thanks.

no, no, no! Do not believe you read on the internet! I believe the internet was created to scam most people! Remember this: If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. Please don't be taken in! I have and it's a bummer. Also, read the fine print before ordering anything on line.

there have been times when I was totally flabbergasted by the stuffs that I researched online. It was for a project and it required definitive data and not just a general one. I was confused by the DOs and DONOTs and one site's DOs were another site's DONOTs!! What could be more confusing!

Yep. 110% of all I read on the internet actually. It's there in writing, so it HAS to be true right? lol. I'd be interested to know if anyone's ever made a guesstimate at what percentage of online information is accurate? Surely it would be a 50/50 split at best? Even wikipedia has disclaimers stating that there is no guarantee of accuracy.....

Wikipedia is one resource that I have reservations about. Anyone can upload anything and without any censors its not certainly one of the reliable sources that I would resort to.

No not at all.
If you read something, try to check the source. Look it up multiple times. And sertainly look if the article isn't just based on annother article etc.

That would be most definitely the best thing to do. There is so much confusion between myths and facts that we end up puzzled at the end of the day.

That is actually true. We have to filter through the news that we gather on internet. We have to be wise and only rely on authenticated websites for true information.
