How can I keep my male cat who has been neutered from peeing all over my house. I do not think he is spraying. If a towel gets left on the bathroom floor or in the corner of the kitchen he uses it to pee on, even if his litter box has just been changed. Im really fed up what should I do?

I have the same problem like you. The good thing is my cat stayed outside the house. He pee on the plants or on any other things outside that it smells really bad. I dont know what to do to him. I want to find out also what to do with them.

Well, we had the cat neutered and declawed so I cant put the cat outside, and also we live very close to a busy street, I dont want anything bad to happen the cat. He is very sweet, he just makes me mad all that peeing all over the place.

1. Does the cat have a medical problem? Have the vet check him over.
2. If he does not, check out planeturine.com . They have a lot of solutions for inappropriate urination. The solution that worked for us was an electrical device that made a sound the cat couldn't tolerate so they wouldn't go into that room any more.

I will try the vet. But I am thinking that an electrical device to keep the cat out of all the rooms, cause he pees everywhere wouldnt do any good.

I would first check with the vet there may be some underlying reason why he is peeing everywhere but his litter box...If it's not medical related I was told you can teach a cat much like a dog by rubbing their noses in it and saying NO! I don't know if it works I know when I give my cat heck for other reasons and say a stern NO he stops pretty much right away lol! Good Luck!

You need to have the cat checked for a medical problem. Also, try changing cat litter. We use scoopable litter for our kitties. They HATED clay litter and took to peeing in our bathtub and after we changed litters, they liked that better.
But a medical check up is first. And don't get rid of the cat like the first poster said. That's just cruel and mean.

i have two male cats, one which i thought was peeing over the house but he was bopping and spraying.it is yet another way to mark his scent.i have a friend that puts water in plastic coke bottles that stops her cats from peeing where she dont want them to.another friend pubbed her cats nose in the pee as soon as it done it (i couldnt be cruel like that)that worked.orange spray seems to get rid of the smell a bit.other than that i have no other ideas apart from a vet check.

That is a good idea to try and rub their noses in it...I also have tried Pets Prosolve that helps a bit too to get it out!

My cat Carlye did that too, peed on soft items like clothes and blankets. I couldn't get her to stop. I just don't leave that kind of stuff on the floor anymore. I don't know why she does it, but I can't handle the smell either so I just stop leaving soft items on the floor. Luckily she never took to peeing on the bed.

Have you thought of consulting an animal behaviorist - that is after you've checked with the vet? Sometimes, if a cat feels unhappy or threatened about something, the only way he has of making his feelings known is by urinating in inappropriate places. His behavior could be an indication that he finds something (another pet?) someone (a regular visitor, maybe?) or something (noises outside?) threatening. When did this behavior start? Could something have triggered it? To give a silly sort of example, once one of our cats was sitting right by the phone when it started ringing. She got such a fright that everytime it rings now, regardless of where she is, she still thinks she has to run away from it. I don't know how much they charge or whether there is someone like that in your area, but an animal behaviorist is trained to access a cat's domestic situation, from the cat's point of view. Alternatively, see if you can get hold of a book entitled 'Cat Confidential' by Vicky Halls. Its really brilliant in helping you get under your cat's skin.

Your first step is to take the cat to vet to rule out any problems. Then if he is ok, it is behavioral. Has anything changed in the household? Is he able to sleep with your son? Has his routine changed (your sons)? Cats are very sensitive, if you change the litter or move the litter box, or if someone leaves the household or moves in, a change in furniture. As for towels cats love them to pee on no idea why but don't leave them down. And I would bet you if he is peeing on things he is spraying on things also. You could try some catnip, to help him relax, its an herb and pet stores have it dried. If he likes toys rub them with it or it comes fresh as a plant where you get herb plants. Is there a cat or cats outside that he can see? Try limiting his access to the windows for a while if he can see outside. Plenty of attention, brushing, feather toys, play time with all in the family especialy your son. As for cleaning get a emzyme based cleaner like NATURES MIRICLE Hope this helps!

I had peeing problem with one of my cats too. He used to pee in my bed, on the place were I slept. I believe I know the "story" behind his behaviour. When I got Hanibal (so he is named), my boyfriend wasn't living at home, so Hanibal slept next to me/ on me for months. When my bf came home the peeing started. My cat was jelous of my bf, cause he took his place. And because I let it happen, Hanibal punished me and let me know that he's not happy with it. The peeing lastet almost for a year until my bf got really mad, he put Hanibal's nose where he just had peed and threatned loudly "If you ever pee again in our bed, I swear to god I will pee on you myself!!!" So it was a matter of authority, Hanibal thought that he was the master of the house, but after a serious 'talk' with my bf he realized that he is not.
So it is possible that your cat is competeing wiht someone around the house.
The other thing why cats pee around the house may be the fact that they do not like litterboxes. The litter in there is hard and uncomfortable for them. Peeing on plankets and other things is much more better - soft.
Best luck with solving the problem!
