How on earth do they do it?

I am trying to type and my fingernails keep getting in the way. I do not understand how those women with those inch-long nails can type, let alone do much else. The longest I can let my nails grow is maybe a quarter of an inch -- maybe.
I tried to open some oil this morning when I was making breakfast and it had one of those foil sticker seals over the opening beneath the cap. Even with the tab I couldn't left it and when I tried to use my thumbnail it bent! Not a pleasant feeling.
Nail clipping is one of those tedious things I always put off until it becomes absolutely necessary. Once you clip you have to shape and it just seems to take up so much time. I try to shape as I clip so that all I have to do is smooth the cut edges with an emery board
I once saw this woman on television with toe nails so long she could only wear flip flops and thong type sandals! I cannot even imagine. If the nail on my big toe is even slightly too long and it bumps up against the inside of my shoe it drives me nuts!

There are things they make for that sort of thing. Some people have used bitter tasting substances to break the habit.

I am a nail bitter. My nails are a little shorter then the skin. I can never get my nails that long with out having the urge to want to bite them. I cant stand to look at people with nails that are an inch or longer. I think it's very discusting to be honest. As for the toe nails... eww that's just as gross! There's a big difference between letting your nails get long and having them get out of control.

Trust me I know what gets under my nails. I dont really care and it doesnt bother me. I havent been sick in years. I can be around people are sick with the flu and it doesnt faze me. I do know I have to "stop" but it's just not that easy for me.

Try using hot sauce or something that tastes really nasty to help you stop. You could also keep them polished if you really want to quit. That has worked for some people.

You hae to break the nail biting habit. I grew out of that when I was about 11 years old. I think it had something to do with something someone said to me but now I know what kind of crud can end up under my nails and I am glad I stopped!

People keep doing these stuff that amazes many. if you type with the bulbs of your finger nails going above the keyboard can do the trick. Try some software. The best one is Dragon Naturally speaking.Use sandals and not boots.

Lol, I can not really talk because I bite my nails. (nervous habit) You are right though, I always wondered the same thing, because I would sometimes wear fake nails for special occassions. I get them they very short because in the past, when I would wear them long, they end up eigther just getting in the way or popping off. Once, it took me like 20 mins. just to zip up and button up my pants....and that also maybe due to me not ever having long nails, so maybe I just wasn't used them, but anyways, it is kind of funny. How people with long nails tolerate it, I do not know.I'm guessing it takes practice.

I don't think the nerves under my nails could take that kind of Practice! Maybe I am just too sensitive, lol.

i have pretty long nails, and I keep them long despite the fact that i wear contact lenses. :)
my nails are not inch-long ones, though. but then i guess i can type because i've always used the pads of my fingers to type and not the tips. oh, and i also find it easy to lift tabs or remove stickers.
i'm very vain when it comes to my nails so i regularly have manicures and pedicures and every 2 weeks, i apply nail hardener so i wont experience them getting bent when i use them to lift tabs. :)

I like pretty nails but other than lifting stickers and so forth they just aren't practical for me to have them too long.

I have very fine fingernails so i can't have them long, as much as I would like to but not too long, I believe they can be bacteria nests...recently at a restaurant I saw a waitress carrying a plate of food to a table and her nails were so long they were actually resting on the plate near the food, the first thing i thought of was I hoped she scrubbed under those nails the last time she went to the ladies room...thank heavens she wasn't our waitress....

Ewwwww! Now I am going to be looking at the fingernails on every waitress and calling for the manager whenever I notice someone whose nails are too long! I hate getting stuff under my nails and it is very hard to be sure you don't have dirt or bacteria under them.

I remember when I worked at a bank... There was this lady that came in and her real nails were a few inches (yes, that's right) long. They were so long and curled that she could barely hold things in her hands. She had to use the sides of her fingers to grab things and pick them up. I thought it was disgusting.
Now, my nails harldy grow because they really take a beating on the computer. Most of the time I use my fingertips, but for some of the keys I do use my fingernail - mostly the index finger. It's funny too because some of my keys have had marks in them from my fingernails.

I can't handle long nails - but my toe nails seem to grow really fast - gross right? I can't usually keep up with them as far as clipping them goes. My fingernails are really fragile too so it doesn't help there. The feeling when it bends is just so horrible. I don't know how women can stand having those super long fingernails - wouldn't they just get in the way of EVERYTHING?!

Mine certainly get in the way and I don't let them go that long. When you've had your hands in water the nails get so soft and bend easily which can sometimes be rather unpleasant.

I like long nails on other women but I can't wear them myself I have to be able to feel with my fingertips and with all the pain I have with FMS I don't want anymore with fingernails that break and bend. So I go short, really short and I like it. I can paint them or just leave them alone it doesn't matter to me.

I never paint my fingernails because they just get messed up. I guess I can feel fortunate they are not brittle.

I don't know about women, but I surely don't like to have long nails. One thing is that they can get chipped in wrong way and cause a lot of pain. Apart from that, being in sports, they can cause problems to others. I have some friends who grow their finger nails, I don't know why, but they do and they seem to like it. I think the smaller the nails, the better for us and for others.

I think nice nails on a woman is attractive enough but anything of significant length on a man is an instant turnoff!

I am the same way! I wish I had long, strong, beautiful nails, and I envy those women who can keep them up. I, however, can never seem to grow my nails out without breaking one as soon as they seem perfect to me, and then I get so frustrated that I don't care to keep any of them up. I like to be able to use my fingers for function, and I've had acrylic nails a few times for special functions and it drives me nuts that I can't do anything with them!

The other thing about having them grow is I almost inevitably snag one of them on something and then my hair and all sorts of things get caught up in the snagged nail. It is even worse when the split is close to the nail bed and you can only trim some of it away.

I love my hair long & my nails short. I don't see how someone types with long nails. I have worked with young females with extra long nails & they can really type well, but it shocks me that can type with those nails, LOL!!!

I like my long hair but there are times when it is time consuming and trouble, lol. I have a lot less trouble with my hair than with my nails.

Long nails drives me nuts, too. I type a lot of the time- for work and for my own personal things- and when I try to type with nails... I don't know. It seems to make the skin under my nail itch when it gets too long, if that makes any sense. So whenever it starts to get annoying, I take a clipper to them right away. I'm not as strict about my toenails as I am fingernails, but 90% of the time those are nice and short, too.

Do you find it bothers you on one hand more than the other? My left hand seems more sensitive to it.
