Personally, I think there are a lot more important places the federal government could spend at least $5 million. They are giving GM and Chrysler up to $500 million! What about education, health, welfare and others who need money? I don't understand where their brains are!
What are your thoughts on this bail out? Why don't they bail US citizens out? Don't we need it more than auto mfg?

The whole situation is awful. Poor Detroit is dying! While I agree that the people need bailing out before industry, I can sort of get the bailout. As of today I read an article where there isn't even a big chain grocery store left. Awful. Since many if not most of the people there work in some section of the auto industry I try and view it as they are the ones being bailed out.

I think they need to give the auto maker's the money. They are the driving force behind this country. I live in Ohio and in the midwest the auto industry is one of the biggest manufacturing forces. I'm glad the money is going to be given out with restrictions unlike the money that was given to the banks originally. I think money should also be given for education and health. But as far as welfare, no i don't think more money needs to be given. I am tired of paying Medicaid and SSI when I know that I will never see it when it is time for me to retire. I'm tired of owing taxes each year just because I am single with no kids. If they would stop taking out so many freaking taxes from my check each month maybe i could begin to save for my own retirement instead of having to use my credit cards to pay for my expenses. I also don't agree with giving money to people who bought houses or cars that they should have known they couldn't afford. It's one thing if you couldn't afford to pay your mortgage because you were laid off. It's quite another if you didn't do your research and signed for an adjustable rate mortgage on a $500K house when you only were making $40k a year and are struggling to keep your house because your rate has increased and you can't afford it. That just means you couldn't afford it in the first place.

Since I was raised in Detroit and am laid off, I work at installing assembly lines for auto manufactures and their tier 1 suppliers! Trying to look at it in a practical way, I truly think the auto companies are needed in this country, people don't understand all of the implications from having a failure. If we allow them to go down we'll lose another good paying and manufacturing source. Something people seem to forget and I see why, is the fact during the beginning of World War 2 we needed the capability to build tanks and other war machine products. Now everyone is talking about Toyota and other foreign manufactures here paying low wages to their employees and being successful. Do you think if (God Forbid) something started like WW 3 and we went to Toyota and said hey we need you to build us some tanks and motors for our defense please, help us we got rid of our manufacturing capabilities and now need your help, please help us!!!!! LOL! Go Figure! We got to save our country! tdemex
