I recieved this as an email forward: What a profound paragraph that says it all!!! "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it." ~~~~~ Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931 - 2005 ~~~~~ A lot of people think it can work, do you?

I think Dr. Rogers says it all! This idea of providing for people who refuse to provide for themselves is insanity. The disable, of course, deserve some help and so do a few others with special needs but for the most part we are financing people who could provide for themselves if they had proper training. Instead, we throw money at them and help trap them in an endless cycle of depending on the government. But the government WANTS us dependent on it! That gives them power. It's time we rose up and take back control of our nation.

I wonder if people realize that every new dependent and every new program makes government morph into bigger, with more power and control, government...

I don't think they care how big government gets as long as it takes care of them and they don't have to make so much effort to survive. Many, many people will give up freedom for security and that's downright scary.

Hi FlowerChilde, I agree with Dr. Rogers. Perhaps a key is effective empowerment training programs that will allow poor people help themselves. Also I am glad that there are also many organizations that lend a hand to disadvantaged members of the community such as the poor's very old, very young and the sick. To them, I agree that we all give a share to give unconditional care and medical treatment. Finally :) http://www.woopidoo.com/business_quotes/poverty-quotes.htm suggests that governments actually have the resources to help the sick and starving very youngs (and olds..) ... I quote Bob Brown : "With a fraction of the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on the Iraq war, The US and Australia could ensure that every starving sunken-eyed child on the planet could be well fed, have clean water and sanitation and a lcoal school to go to." Perhaps another miracle could end wars... God bless.
