I joined a bunch of sites lately to make money online, a couple of them did ask for my phone number and at the time I did not think anything of it. Today i keep getting these text messages telling me that they think that i am beautiful and asking me to send them pics through the phone, i asked them how they got my number, they wouldnt say...until just now he texted me and told me that he works for one of the companies that I signed up for, and part of his job is to call the number....well he said that my voice mail greeting "was sexy" and that I must be "too good to be true",.,,,,i feel disgusted and outraged, my privacy was totally invaded and the only reason I'm not going off on him is because im trying to find out what company he works for because I of course am going to complain

That's terrible. In fact, I think that's actionable. What places did you give your phone number too, I want to know so I don't make the same mistake. I will be super careful giving out my number in the future. As a woman you can't be too careful with things like that.

Most of the times we shouldn't give our mobile numbers but some times we need to trust the companies in the company employees are not leaving us they keep on make calls to irritate us.

This is very unusual. I have heard of people being bombarded by people selling stuff but someone texting you asking for personal stuff is weird and psychotic. Reading your story makes me think that this guy just pic your number from the list because hes desperate for friends or hes just a nut case. Hope you resolve that soon.

Wow that's some crazy! Hope you can report this company or person or both! Thats why it's good to get one of those free voicemail numbers to give out on those web forms. That's what I have started using. This way you can still maintain your privacy and still receive any important business messages that may come through. It works well for me. You can get a free voicemail several places. One I use is http://laservoicemail.com if you want one too.

thank you so much for that link, i think that i will have to use that in the future because that is better than using a bogus number because some messages i really would want to receive, anything that i gave my number to before was something that i was really interested in which makes my experience even more disheartening :(

Wow I have never heard of this happening but I would be really mad as well. I think this employee should get fired because I do agree that he invaded your privacy. Its not an employees job to do what he did. I bet the boss will be really mad. I try my hardest not to give my phone number out to any companies if I don't absolutely need them to contact me. Even when you go to the stores now and are paying for items with cash they always ask for your phone number. I tell them I don't want to give that out. Online if possible when filling out a form that requires my phone number I will type in the first 6 digits and then just add 0000 to the rest of the number. It almost always goes through that way. You could do this in the future if you don't really want them to contact you.

That is an un nerving experience and a total invasion of privacy! I do hope you have some luck in putting a stop to it. I have placed my mobile number on several sites too, I guess I've been luckly not to get harrassed! I did enter this thing once which resulted in me receiving text messages every day at the cost of $2 a day! I didn't sign up fot that! It took ages to get them to stop doing it!

that really sucks :( i guess i am lucky in the fact that this was just a random creep on his own cell phone texting me and i have unlimited texts so it doesn;t cost me anything but in the future if i have to give a number outside of employment or school, im giving a bogus number

That's why I give a fake phone number. I know it's against the rules and all, but I'm not having 100 telemarketers calling me every day, day in and day out. It's annoying as heck and I won't put up with it for what little bit of money I make off of those sites.

My husband taught me a lot of things over the internet. One of them is to never give out any information regarding your private details especially and more importantly cellphone or telephone numbers. Never ever trust anything or anybody over the internet. And so we only invent numbers when they are required. We even create email accounts that are not for our personal use just to have something to give to sites that really require email addresses. I hate people who are sending text messages that only create annoyance to receivers. The best thing we could do is to change our SIM cards or telephone numbers which is not so easy to do especially for telephone lines. With regard to SIM cards problem lies with informing again all your friends and relatives on your new number. But that is the only way to get rid of the person who text you or bothers you. Problem again is if the SIM you are using is a Postpaid/Plan from a SIM provider. That SIM can't be changed because you are bound by a contract. So better report to the company of your SIM provider the number that bothers you and they will cut the line if in case a lot complains about that number. So ask some of your friends to help you in reporting. That's all!

definitely, its so funny how you can get casual about giving info because you have never had a bad experience, but now that I have even less than 12 hours im totally different and 100% more guarded about my info, i think if i had only knew then what i know now

I never give my phone number out to places like that. If they want my phone number, then I| don't want their services. I know of a friend of mine who did that, and he got all kinds of stupid freaking sales calls from everyone in the freaking USA. It got annoyoing after a while.

This kind of thing happens in Germany also.
One dodge is to send seemingly harmless text messages asking for a reply.
The reply however is to a special number costing over a dollar per text.
If you get hooked into an exchange of views it can cost you a lot of money.
It is common with dating sites and you think you are in contact with an interesting lady!
