The other side of Making Money is ...?

... saving money, of course! Do you try to take advantage of all the special offers and advice on cheaper deals than you have already? In the UK there are two excellent sites which give free advice and notify us of better deals. If you are in the UK, it's well worth taking advantage of their regular emails and visiting the sites regularly. If you are not in the UK, the advice given - especially in MoneyMagpie - could still be very useful. I think it amazing that there are people out there willing to put time and money into putting up and maintaining websites like this for our benefit ... and for free! http://www.moneysavingexpert.com http://www.moneymagpie.com/make-money/ Do you know of any other sites like this that are more applicable to your country? Would it be a good idea to start one and what difficulties and problems would you anticipate if you were to do that?

I don't know any such website in my country. But, there is a chain of supermarket in our country, which publishes monthly digest and makes suggestion for buyers. This magazine is really helpful in buying, as they even advice us on how to shop smart (Sometimes, the same brand of product has extra free when bought in smaller packs. For example, 50 ml Shampoo would be having 25% extra free and 100 ml bottle won't. The price of the two would be equal to the 100 ml, but we get an extra 25 ml.) And my credit card has around 5% cash back when bought in bulk. I use it, and repay it fully before the credit period ends. I get 5% cashback and sometimes win prizes for using the card.

These are both excellent sites. I have been using Moneysavingsexpert for some time and I will enjoy having a potter around MoneyMagpie. Thank you for the lead. In the meantime there's still good old myLot to keep us rich (Ho Ho)!

I do use these sites owlwings but my other half is the one who does all the comparisons and figures out what deal is best for us so I really don't have to. I don't think I could do a job anywhere near as good as the sites that you mention do! xxx

I agree. I am always impressed by the amount of work that must go into sites like that. Since we have an international audience (and many people interested in making money out of something online), I was hoping that someone here in a country that isn't served as well would pick up on my suggestion for a really hot niche site ... it seems nobody has risen to the bait yet, though.

As a popular saying goes, every dollar saved is a dollar earned or that person is rich who saves more and not the person who earns more.. In India we got 26% as our domestic saving rate. We got countless avenues to put our money in apart from risky stock market, we got many tax saving scheme where we can put money in Govt. securities and not only we dont have to pay tax on that money up to rs 100,000 but also we get 8 to 10% annual interest on them. So nearly every household which have money and especially the salaried class to save taxes do invest a lot of money in these schemes.

Yes there are freebie sites here too. I know of people that just go to a companies website, give them a compliment and they get free coupons in the mail. You can do the same in resurants too. Fill out the questionaire and then they like your response to you get fee meal certificates. I think there is a lot out there and people aren't sure where to go sometimes.

I don't think that in reality it helps people saving. It rather incite people to buy useless stuffs just because they think it's so cheap let's do not miss this bargain :D

Did you even look at the sites? They are not the kind that offer cheap merchandise or bulk offers that say "Save 10%" or "Save $5 if you buy $50 worth". They do, of course, mention some of these but they are based on the premise that nearly all of us are paying more for the things we actually use and need than we should do.

I have to say that this kind of reaction is typical of a particular attitude. Many people seek to 'protect' themselves from the world by simply saying 'no' based on their (assumed) experience. It is such people, who unfortunately make up the majority of the population, who often complain about the hum-drum life they lead and sometimes wish that they could do things but they never will because the 'writing on their walls' will always tell them that such things are not for them. It is sad because we are all capable of amazing things but so many of us say 'no' before we even look at what is offered. It is the reason why so many people struggle to make a living. I posted this discussion in 'Make extra money' for a very good reason - to suggest an opportunity to those who are really interested in making extra money (and making the best of what they have). I'm really sorry that you wandered into the wrong department!

I knew about moneysaving expert but not the other one I'll have to have a look at that. I often use motleyfool to check for the best deals. Mr Croc is also a member of Which? magazine which has very useful information.

I knew about Martin Lewis web site which is very good,I will have a look at the other one.Yes saving money is a daily occupation for me.When going out with friends we take our own food, drink we pride ourselves in not giving in to consumerism if we can save we are happy.sometimes you have to spend we are not tight we are carful then it leaves money for other things. If it comes to the kids then we spend ,they will not go without, they are our main priority and their needs must be met.Mind you my son says do I really need that mum? So he is taking after us.We spoil him on his birthday.chistmas, holidays ect. When it comes to us we shop around on the net or take a day of looking, searching for the best bargain,In this day and age we would fools not to.xxxps.good discussion.
