Resurrection ain't all it's cracked up to be.

When I started in Mylot some 7 months ago, I would start discussions regularly, and get very little response to most of them. Lately it seems to be a waste of time starting new ones, for all but the regular geniuses of Mylot, so I have followed the latest trend and resurrected a number of my early efforts. The result has been even more disappointing than the original response. Resurrection isn't all that wonderful, hey? Lash

You know this has stumped me all along…this phenomenon of a select few getting regularly hitting centuries or at least a half century even thru the most inane and opt-repeated topics while we the supposedly minnows can never do anything right to attract responses to our sundry problems and observations. I came across many ‘tips’ the most important being to increase friends and referrals. Now I am poor at networking and useless banter so I have no referrals and never solicit friendship (I accept all as it is not for me to judge anybody)…even then, the responses have just trickled in. I guess my highest score is in the 20s So I have semi-retired from posting discussions…oh well! Not all of us are born genuises BTW…which of your efforts have your resurrected?

About 6 or 7, which will appear as among the first ten you see when you check my discussions in your friends' started list. I can't remember the titles lol, I'm old and semi-senile. By the way, I have to say I am intensely enjoying our dialogue in that threesomes thread: we have quite different viewpoints, but I appreciate that you put your point and disagree with mine without falling back on conventional rote social and religious rhetoric, but instead put your points with intelligence and logic. By the way, two of the "geniuses" are James and Pikef1sh, and if you haven't caught on to them yet I strongly recommend them. Most of their discussions, even the lighthearted ones, have lots of value. Lash

Looks like this one is doing well, I mean it's on the "today's top" tab. I notice that if I start in certain interests that draws more people.

This is one of a handful of relatively meaningless discussions I have started, and as so often happens with that sort of thing, has got better response than many of my more thoughtful posts. I guess meaningful discussions don't earn their 2c, so most people don't bother. Lash

Maybe it means that the topic you have discussed is not that popular with other users? Or else you have not put a catchy headline at the top of your discussion. Or it might means that you don't have a wide circle of friends. Some people are lucky to receive a lot of responses when they start a discussion about a trivial subject.

I've heard this idea of a wide circle of friends before, but I can't see the point of amassing hundreds of "friends" for the purpose of merely getting a lot of meaningless responses. Rather, I accept only those people whose posts impress me as thoughtful and intelligent. For me it's about the mutual dialogue. Lash

My apologies mate, I've been struggling to keep up with some other things lately and haven't been able to devote as much effort to responding to other people's discussions as I usually do. I was well aware of your desire to do this too. I did make it to a few of them though I think! Maybe the geniuses are hibernating? Is it that time of year already???

I know that supporting one's friends here is useful, but we can't rely on that alone. I don't find every one of yours requires my presence, and don't expect the reverse. I'm just happy when we do connect. Lash

for me i've seen the exact opposite... when i start a discussion i don't get that many responses probably 7 max... but the next day when i revisit the discussion, rate people's answers, and reply to them... i find that even MORE people respond which makes it more fun and interesting... my advice to you is to keep resurrecting your discussions... you never know what you'll get!

I think, if you need a lot of points back, then your argument must be innovative. But I still think that others involved in the discussion of more practical.

I have periodically resurrected an old discussion with little response. It's better to start new ones I think. The thing is I tried to resurrect discussions that didn't get much of a response the first time around. Perhaps that was the problem, it wasn't that good to begin with so why would I expect it to get better over time. :) I wouldn't bother, instead I would take the time to start a brand new discussion.

Well not it is not that great it depends on people being interested and not having seen it the first time. I worked over my old discussions fairly well so there is not a lot of room to resurrect them and some I really do not want to. The moment has passed. I would rather see lots of new interesting ones but it seems that there are not that many of those around as I have had trouble finding much to reply to lately.

We all need to face it,their are some people on Mylot their are not going to respond to your discussions no matter what it's about. I have felt the same way at times myself, but what the heck,I'm just try to start a discussion on something that I want to find out about or something that I think would be interesting to someone else. I've never thought about resurrecting any of my old discussions, even though at the time I would think that the topic that I started would have been something worth discussing.

Good luck with that. At least you are trying. I am one of those non-creative types that can't think of anything to post.
