Does decrease in the star numbers show you've got negative ratings frm someone?

When they alloted me with a star rating once reached to 100, i have got a 87/100 reputation .. in two days it increases to 88/100, seeing all this i was very excited and feel with great enthusiasm.
I increased my potential for posting responses and increased the number of discussions too But in a matter of some 20 hours i found it 85/100.... Now .. what is this?
Can anybody knows it exactly and how does all the process works?

People give you negative ratings just because you say something that pisses them off. It has nothing to do with the quality of your posts. I went from a 10 to a 7 almost overnight because of a couple of comments I posted about a couple of controversial issues that some people apparently didn't like. I don't really worry about the number on that little star anymore.
