Two Baby Sweaters in Two Weeks!

United States
April 22, 2009 6:02pm CST
Two of my coworkers are expecting a baby within a few weeks. One is expecting a boy and the other a girl. My favorite gift has always been a hooded sweater with the zipper that is in the back. They are simple to make and I can make them rather quickly. One is nearly finished. Once that is done I will make the other one. I can't wait to see their faces when I present them with these handmade gifts. Are you one that makes gifts for expectant mothers or do you head for the nearest sale?

Candle with baby's picture on it - Shower decoration I make for all the babies in our family!
Recently I have been doing something different....well I think is different....I give them a box of diapers with a gift card to their favorite store...that way they can buy what they need.....I am usually one giving the shower though...with my sisters in my family and I like making unusual things for the shower like a candle with the baby's picture on it.....

I give baby bibs, home made. People tell me that mine are the BEST EVER!! Just make them with wash clothes, they can toss them in the washer.

I had several bibs that were made out of hand towels and could be pulled over the baby's head. They were wonderful! If you have a pattern for those bibs I would love a copy!

I know that the terry cloth is so much more absorbent than any other material.

I've actually seen people with those kinds of bibs and how the babies seem to HATE them, so, I would never make one, I did use to buy the kind you can cross stitch on that had velcro on the sholder the ones I make are from washclothes and I use bias tape around the neck and for the ties.

This is a picture of the afghan I recently made for my son & daughter in law for a wedding present
I like crocheting baby afghans for expecting moms. I am getting ready to start one in the next few days. My friend is going to have a boy. Here is a pic of an afghan I recently finished. I made it for my son & daughter in law as a wedding present.

I love your afghan! How long did it take you to make this? When I make afghans they are usually granny squares. They work up fast.

Thank you, I worked on it for a couple of months. It took a long time to make.

I used to make afghans, but I have not in a long time. I envy you being able to make sweaters.

Hello friend. It is nice of you to make some handmade baby sweaters for your coworkers. Well, my wife and my elder sister do the same. They are both good at knitting sweaters. I appreciate their talent in knitting. It saves a lot from buying them in a shop. Besides I think that it is warmer to have a handmade one. Take care, friend.

I have always enjoyed making homemade gifts. Many appreciate them, but I have found one or two that would prefer something bought from the store.

I usually have to go to the nearest sale. But now that I know how to make hats, I think I can probably make some for people who have babies and invite me in the future.

I can knit but am not good at it. Mt mother knitted beautifully and so did my sisters. The only thing that I ever knitted was a patchwork blanket for my son's bed. I so enjoyed doing it for him. I can embroider and sew but the knitting is rubbish. I can just imagin their pleasure when they see the gifts. I am one of those people who have to buy instead of making something unfortunatley.

i think knitted garments and blankets make the best baby gifts especially if you use a really soft yarn a hooded sweater like that sounds nice and the zipper in the back is good so that the baby cannot grab it thats amazing that you are able to make them that quickly it takes me forever to knit something i do not make gifts for expectant mothers because i would not be able to finish them in time before the baby is born haha but if i get more time on my hands i would like to knit for gifts
