What was your dream?

I remember watching a beauty contest for children on television and one of the most common question was "what do you want to become when you grow up?" and the most common answer were "I want to become a doctor, teacher, pilot, and other common profession. I thought then, when I grow up I want to become a newscaster or a disk jockey on radio, talking to people and giving them news or advises. But, I am not that now, instead, I am an engineer. Quite very far from my dream then, but engineering is what my parents can afford then for me. However, I got to love and enjoy this career now. How about you? what was your dream then? Is what you are now was the one you wanted to be? If you can turn back the time, would you like to change your career?

I went through several phases as a kid, wanting to be different things. For a long while when I was very little I wanted to be an astronaut. But I had the idea that astronauts went to alien planets and discovered strange new plants and animals as well as talking aliens like in the books I read. I thought they zoomed around in spaceships in foreign solar systems and brought back animals and plants to be examined. It was very silly, but I was just a little kid.
Later I wanted to be a harp player or a writer.

That sounds fun! Why didn't you persue it now? Now you want to be a harp player or a writer, so what really are you now? I hope whatever you've become, you'll find happiness on it. Good luck!!!

you were saying that you were lacking in confidence? but why? you should understand the great things starts from small beginnings. I am not a writer, but i believe those who are now successful into whatever field they may be now starts with the same feelings and some failures along the way to success. Just give it a try. Good luck!

I don't know. I am pursuing my writing dream to some extent- I had a story come out in a small magazine this month- I just lack the confidence, I guess, to really write and try to make it as a writer. I hope to set aside a little time to write this afternoon. Maybe I can still pursue my dreams.

world peace, lol... I've always wanted to become a writer and I did turn into one (I've been published in magazines, newspapers, and anthologies), but the thing is I didn't study to be a writer (because I thought either you are or you aren't) and just took up languages, which I thought would help me in my writing. Now, I wish that I had studied it so I wouldn't feel so insecure about my work. There's still time though (time, yeah; money, no).

Well, don't be sad and insecure. Do you know that success as stated in one speech i heard is a progressing realization of a worthwhile dream, its not abrupt or magic. You gained your success through experiences and i can say that you are a hundred more great writer than others who studied. I remember somewhat a one liner said in ratatouille the movie "everybody can cook, but not everybody can be a great cook". Luckily, aside from your desire to be a writer, you also have the potential to be one. You know, even if i dreamt of becoming a singer, if i don't really have the voice, it will be very hard, right?! Good luck to you!

My dream is to be a musician but I've also had another dream that I recently added and that's to also be a chemist. Because music can help benefit people by helping them get through the tasks in life that would normally be boring and giving them something to listen to or distract them from the meaningless task they are doing. And chemistry could help benefit people that are sick or need some kind of healing.

i know some people who have not just one dream but actually a lot and i find them rather amusing. It doesn't really matter how many dreams you have in your list, what matter i guess is that you have the strong will to make it happen and not just jotting it down and then forget it. Hope you'll be what you wanted to be!!!

Now I dream about to start a organization of creative Ideas.. where every one is benefited and helped a lot. Hope this will come true soon.

I am always touched by people responses about this whose dream is to touch other people's life too. If only all the people in the world are just like you who care about their brothers, life would be much more light and everywhere is a better place to live in.

Right now I'm happy with my life because I already achieve maybe my dreams. When was kid I said to my self that I want to be a soccer a player someday but when I grow up my dream to become a soccer player was change because maybe I learn more in life that being a soccer player in not what I really want. After that when I was in high skul that is the when I said to my self that I want to be an engineer particular computer engineer. After my graduation in college I took up my dream course which is computer engineer but there is a time in my life were I was not contented in my chosen course so I have decided to shift to another course which electonics and communication engineer(ECE) because I think it is a challenging course. But I always says I am ECE in profession but computer engineer by heart, hehehehehehehe, but that is true.

I didn't know that! But i understand what you mea. I once remember one line in spider man the movie2 of Aunt May to Peter then by Peter to Dr. Octopus "sometimes in order to do what is right we have to give up something, even our greatest dream". Like i did, instead of complaining and made my life miserable, I rather chose to grab whatever is offered and learn to love it, because i knew then that it was the right thing to do. I have no regret at all in doing so and in fact happy for who I am now. I thank my parents because I know they did their best and for me that is enough.

i understand what you mean. Sometimes our dreams are often change and driven by our current needs. There are also times when our dreams change when we already get the first. I must admit, i too dream of becoming a wife and a mom soon. Happy mylotting!!!

well, i don't know what i shall be yet, and i think i will choose carefully since i read in this discussion that most people are depressed at first then are able to seek the advantage of their job and they start acting positvely to it, but i shall see all the paths of what i can be, and shall choose the best there is, but it's a good thing that you have learned to love your job,
anyways, Happy-mYlotting

hhhmmm, on my own opinion a dream is something you really want to be in life regardless of the circumstances you have now or of things you have in mind or of what the people around you experience. There are really people that besides their job still have separate dreams and later fulfill it, there are those who'd became what circumstances made them to be and there are those who find their dreams as their bread and butter. Whatever you may decided you wanted to be, enjoying and being happy on your decisions is i guest what really matters.

hhhmmm, that was nice. But, i think it is too general. What do you really wanna do and become that will make you happy aside from having a cozy family to live a common life? I believe each person has its own true wanna be dream. Good luck on your soul searching! =)

I wanted to be a dancer, but to this day I cannot dance. Would I go back and change it knowing what I know now, no it would have only brought on more arthritis problems and more pain faster in my life. I might have missed out on raising my three wonderful daughters.
I do find it sad that you speak of what your parents can afford for you, as all of my children have done what they wanted to in school and in life and they had to do it own there own. They are strong women all married to strong men. They knew I did the best I could. They lead happy productive lives and I am so very proud of them. Please be thankful that you parents could do anything for you. It is not alway like that.

I know what you mean. I am not blaming or complaining at all. I do understand that some things are not just mean to be and that I am still a thousands more blessed than others. I am of course thankful for what my parents had done to us and I know that they are proud of who we are now. I just thought of wondering and remembering my dream and what if i'd become what I wanted to be when I was young. Happy mylotting!!!

That's called fighting spirit! What matters is that you enjoy what you are doing and not really minding what others will say about you. Like the saying goes "what others think about you is none of your business", just do it and do it right and with all your best! Good luck! Happy mylotting!!!!

I guess i understand what you mean. Some people really know where they are heading, there are those who just take the roads where many are going, and there are those who needs to guided as to where he/she has to go. Good luck!

I remember the very first thing I drew when I was in Kindergarten was a nurse, I was quite good in drawing at an early age lol! But seriously, I really did prefer to draw it when my teacher asked us what we want to be, and I like drawing it cause it's much simpler than the other professions on the chart to choose from. Then I've had changed of mind, shifting from one passion to the other. But I finally found myself as a Registered Nurse now, of which I never imagined, cause I totally forgot about it, and I was just drawn by my friends. However in the long run, I found out I was meant where I am, I get to love my profession so much I thank God He has brought me this far and been ministering to me all along! It has been by vocation, and I can say I'm living a dream! But we don't stop there we always have something new to dream about! Ciao!
